The Utrecht School for the Arts [1] [2] (Dutch : Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) is a performing arts and visual arts educational institution in City of Utrecht, Province of Utrecht, Netherlands. The school opened for student enrollment in September 1987. [3]
The institution has 680 teachers and staff members. The Utrecht School for the Arts cooperates with the Utrecht University at many levels.
The Utrecht School for the Arts offers preparatory courses, bachelor's and master's programmes and research degrees in fine art, design, music, theatre, media, games and interaction and arts management. With more than 3,900 students, the Utrecht School for the Arts is one of the largest art and culture-oriented institutes in Europe. [4]
The Utrecht School for the Arts is internationally oriented and involved in numerous international programmes and projects. The Utrecht School for the Arts maintains contact with almost 200 educational institutions abroad for the purpose of exchanging lecturers, students and projects. Almost 20% of the students come from outside the Netherlands. Foreign students can attend the Utrecht School for the Arts as a regular student, an exchange student in programmes such as Socrates/Erasmus, a bilateral exchange program or as an MA, MPhil or Ph.D. student. Since 1999 the Utrecht School for the Arts is an accredited institution of the Open University. [5]
The Faculty of Music was a formed in 1987 as a result of the merger of the Utrecht Conservatory of Music, the Netherlands Institute for Church Music and the Netherlands Carillon School of Amersfoort.
The Netherlands Carillon School, founded in Amersfoort in 1953, is a Dutch school teaching carillon playing. Since its foundation, more than 250 students from eleven countries have studied there. They now preside over most of the 182 carillons in the Netherlands, and occupy positions in many other parts of the world. In 1985 the school became part of the Utrecht School of the Arts, Faculty of Music.
Each student of the Netherlands Carillon School can follow programs of study offered by the other schools.

The institute offers higher education in Bachelor of Education, Fine Arts and Design, Communication Design, Architecture and Interior Design, Interdisciplinary Arts, and in Master of Scientific Illustration, Architecture and Interior Design. Since 2020, the institute, in cooperation with the Academies of Music and Theatre, the Jan van Eyck Academy and Maastricht University, has offered the possibility of a doctorate in the visual arts. The institute focuses on the meaning of art as a phenomenon in its own right, with its own insights and laws.
The Royal Carillon School "Jef Denyn" is a music school in Mechelen, Belgium, that specializes in the carillon. It is the first and largest carillon school in the world. The Belgian government defines it as an "International Higher Institute for the Carillon Arts under the High Protection of Her Majesty Queen Fabiola". The school has trained many of the foremost carillonneurs of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and houses a rich archive and library.
Fontys University of Applied Sciences is a Dutch university of applied sciences, located in the southern Netherlands. It has over 44,000 students in several campuses. The three largest Fontys campuses are located in the cities of Eindhoven, Tilburg and Venlo. The name Fontys comes from the Latin word "fons" which means "source". The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp is an art academy located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1663 by David Teniers the Younger, painter to the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm and Don Juan of Austria. Teniers was master of the Guild of St Luke—which embraced arts and some handicrafts—and petitioned Philip IV of Spain, then master of the Spanish Netherlands, to grant a royal charter to establish a Fine Arts Academy in Antwerp. It houses the Antwerp Fashion Academy.

The Utrechts Conservatorium is a Conservatory of Music in Utrecht, Netherlands and part of the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). The conservatory opened in 1875 and is one of the eldest professional musical education institutes of the Netherlands. Since 1971, the conservatory is located in the former concert hall Gebouw voor Kunsten en Wetenschappen and in the former hospital St. Joannes de Deo, both on the same street. Apart from these two buildings, the Nederlandse Beiaardschool, located in Amersfoort, is also part of the school. The Utrechts Conservatorium merged in 1987 with the Carillon School and the Nederlands Instituut voor Kerkmuziek into the Faculty of music of the Utrecht School of the Arts.

Among the precursors of the School was the Brabants Conservatorium, one of the nine conservatoires in the Netherlands.
