Vaiusu is a village on the Samoan island of Upolu. It is located on the central-north coast of the island, to the west of the capital Apia. As of 2016, Vaiusu had a population of 2,686. [1]

In 2019 the government proposed a US$100 million wharf and port project for Vaiusu, to be funded by a loan from China. [2] Following the 2021 Samoan general election newly elected Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa formally scrapped the project. [3]

Religion

The majority of the community adhere to the Catholic Church. There are also members of Islam, with a mosque located along the main road in Vaiusu-Tai [4] and members of Assembly Of God (AOG) in Vaiusu-Uta.

The Marsden Point Branch is a 19 km (12 mi) branch line railway, which is to be built in the Northland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It will diverge from the North Auckland Line at Oakleigh, south of Whangārei, and serve Northport at Marsden Point. The proposal has existed since the 1970s and land for the rail corridor is being actively purchased. In October 2017, the new Labour–NZ First coalition government announced that it would spend $600 million on rehabilitating the North Auckland Line and building the branch at a cost of $200 million, the total works to cost $800 million. In June 2021 it was announced that the line would be built and was expected to take about 5 years.

CityLynx Gold Line

The CityLynx Gold Line is a streetcar line in Charlotte, North Carolina. A component of the Charlotte Area Transit System's Lynx rail system, it follows a primarily east-west path along Beatties Ford Road, Trade Street and Central Avenue through central Charlotte. The initial 1.5-mile (2.4 km), six-stop segment between Time Warner Cable Arena and Presbyterian Hospital opened for service on July 14, 2015. The Samoa Shipping Corporation is a government-owned company in Samoa which provides freight and passenger services between Savai'i, Upolu and American Samoa. Established in 1974, the corporation is managed as a public trading body under the Public Bodies Act 2001.
