Western Carolina University (WCU) is a public university in Cullowhee,North Carolina. It is part of the University of North Carolina system.

Major Lee Applewhite is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach for the South Alabama Jaguars. He served as head coach at the University of Houston from 2017 to 2018,where he previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 2013,he was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Texas under his head coach as a player,Mack Brown. Prior to Texas,Applewhite served as offensive coordinator at Rice University under Todd Graham in 2006 and at Alabama under Nick Saban in 2007. He was the youngest offensive coordinator among Division I-A schools at that time.

Heaven's Gate was an American new religious movement known primarily for the mass suicides committed by its members in 1997. Commonly designated a cult,it was founded in 1974 and led by Bonnie Nettles (1927–1985) and Marshall Applewhite (1931–1997),known within the movement as Ti and Do,respectively. Nettles and Applewhite first met in 1972 and went on a journey of spiritual discovery,identifying themselves as the two witnesses of Revelation,attracting a following of several hundred people in the mid-1970s. In 1976,a core group of a few dozen members stopped recruiting and instituted a monastic lifestyle.

A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are of active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight class. The election coincided with the elections for other offices,including the U.S. Senate,U.S. House of Representatives,and state house. The filing period lasted from February 24,2022,to March 4,2022,with the primary election being held on May 17,2022. The elections were originally to be held under new districts passed by the General Assembly in Senate Bill 739 to account for population changes following the 2020 census;however,following a ruling by the North Carolina Supreme Court,the General Assembly redrew the maps to comply with the court's ruling.
