Valluri Srinivasa Rao (born 20 October 1981) is an Indian weightlifter from Andhra Pradesh. He works in the Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering of the Indian Army.

Career

On 25 October 2003, in the 2003 Afro-Asian Games held in Hyderabad, India, Rao won a silver medal in the Men's 56 kg category. [1] He won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in Penang, Malaysia in October 2009 in the same category. [2]

On 4 October 2010 Rao won a bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi in the Men's 56 kg category. On 13 November 2010, he ranked 8th in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou in the Men's 56 kg category. [3]

On 22 February 2011, Rao won a gold medal in the Men's 56 kg category of the 34th National Games in Jamshedpur. He represented the Services (SSCB) team in the event. [4]

Weightlifting in India

Karnam Malleswari won a bronze medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics at Sydney, which made her the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. In 1992, she participated in the Asian championship which took place in Thailand and stood second and won three silver medals. She also won three Bronze medals in the world championship.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu Indian weightlifter (born 1994)

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is an Indian weightlifter. She won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Women's 49 kg category. Mirabai Chanu has won the World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions to the sport. She was awarded the sporting honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna by the Government of India in 2018.

Santoshi Matsa is an Indian weightlifter who won the silver medal in the women's 53 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. Matsa had originally finished in bronze medal position, but the gold medal winner Chika Amalaha of Nigeria failed a drug test, elevating Matsa to silver medal position. Santoshi lifted a total of 188 kg — 83 kg in snatch and 105 in clean and jerk.

Mabia Akhter Simanta is a Bangladeshi weightlifter. She was born in Madaripur. She won gold medal in the women's 63 kg weight class at the 2016 South Asian Games at Guwahati. She also won a gold in youth section and two silver medals in senior & juniors section in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Pune, India in October 2015 in the women's 63 kg category. She lifted a total weight of 176 kg in winning the gold medal.

Iuniarra Sipaia is a Samoan female weightlifter. She has represented Samoa in several international competitions such as Pacific Mini Games, Commonwealth Games, Oceania Weightlifting Championships and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Ekambaram Karunakaran Indian weightlifter

Ekambaram Kaunakaran is a former Indian weightlifter. He was the first Indian to win the gold medal in an international competition in weightlifting. This was in the Commonwealth games in Edmonton, Canada in 1978. Karunakaran's career spanned over a decade. He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in the year 1978-79 by the Government of India.

He is the youngest person to hold an Indian national record in weightlifting. He is a Naib Subedar in Bombay Sappers in the Indian Army.

Chaturanga Lakmal Jayasooriya Arachchilage also known as Chathuranga Lakmal is a Sri Lankan male weightlifter.

Talha Talib is a Pakistani weightlifter from Gujranwala. He is the Pakistani national champion in the 62 kg category. He set a new record at the games in snatch as he lifted 132 kg in the third attempt with 127 kg and 130 kg in the first two attempts, respectively. He was also a gold medalist at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championships in Penang. He lifted 258 kg to clinch the gold. He is currently the top No. 1 ranked weightlifter of Pakistan.

Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt is a gold medalist weightlifter from Gujranwala, Pakistan. He won gold medal in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2022.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga Indian weightlifter

Jeremy Lalrinnunga is an Indian weightlifter from Aizawl, Mizoram He represented India in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. He won the gold medal in the Boys' 62 kg category weightlifting with a lift of 274 kg . It was India's first gold medal in the Youth Olympics Games.Jeremy won silver medal in Asian weightlifting championship.At the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships, Lalrinnunga finished at 21st rank at the Men's 67 kg event. He won gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, in the 67 kg category, with a game record lift of 140kg in snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk.

Mohamad Aniq bin Kasdan is a Malaysian weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the Clean & Jerk men's 55 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He also created history by being the first Malaysian weightlifter to win a medal in the World Weightlifting Championships.

Lovepreet Singh is an Indian weightlifter who competes in the men's 109 kg weight category. He won the silver medal at the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships and bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In 2017, he won bronze at the Asian Youth Championships and gold at the Junior Commonwealth Championships in the 105 kg category. He works for the Indian Navy.
