Varun Bhisham Sahni (born 29 March 1956) is an Indian theoretical physicist, astrophysicist and a Distinguished Professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics. [1] Known for his research on cosmology, [2] Sahni is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, [3] Indian National Science Academy [4] and National Academy of Sciences, India. [5] The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to physical sciences in 2000. Sahni is reported to have studied the universe, more specifically its large-scale structure, the early inflationary phase and cosmological constant. [7] His achievements include the establishment of a cosmic no-hair theorem related to inflation, analysis of the universe structure using self-developed statistical methods, discovery of novel models of dark energy and dark matter, design of unified models of Inflation and dark energy and the elucidation of Big Bang theory using Braneworld physics. [8] His studies have been documented by way of a number of articles [9] [note 2] and the online article repository of the Indian Academy of Sciences has listed 68 of them. [10]

Sahni is a member of the International Astronomical Union. [11] He has delivered plenary addresses at many conferences and seminars; "Cosmology after the BOOMERANG experiment" delivered at the Astronomy Seminars 2000 of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research [12] and Frontiers of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICGC 2011) of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences were two of them. [13] The School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens has listed one of his talks on Dark matter and dark energy, delivered in March 2004, as the best cited among Aegean School talks. [14] He is also a recipient of the Homi Bhabha Medal (2014) of the Indian National Science Academy. [15]

Thanu Padmanabhan was an Indian theoretical physicist and cosmologist whose research spanned a wide variety of topics in gravitation, structure formation in the universe and quantum gravity. He published nearly 300 papers and reviews in international journals and ten books in these areas. He made several contributions related to the analysis and modelling of dark energy in the universe and the interpretation of gravity as an emergent phenomenon. He was a Distinguished Professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) at Pune, India.

Govind Swarup was a pioneer in radio astronomy. In addition to research contributions in multiple areas of astronomy and astrophysics, he was a driving force behind the building of "ingenious, innovative and powerful observational facilities for front-line research in radio astronomy".

Amol Dighe is a Professor of Physics in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India. He studied in Saraswati Secondary School, Thane, Maharashtra up to 10th grade and attended D. G. Ruparel College for the next 2 years. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology, the highest science award in India, for the year 2013 in physical science category. His main research interest is in the area of high energy physics with focus on particles known as neutrinos, their nature and the role they play in astrophysics and cosmology. Dighe completed his BTech in Engineering Physics (1992) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, MS and PhD (1997) from University of Chicago. Later he did postdoctoral research at ICTP, Trieste, CERN and Max Planck Institute before joining TIFR as a faculty member in 2003. He is a fellow the Indian Academy of Sciences and has won the Swarnajayanti Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Virendra Singh is an Indian theoretical physicist and a former C. V. Raman chair professor and director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). Known for his research in high energy physics, Singh is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies - Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences, India as well as The World Academy of Sciences. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to Physical Sciences in 1973.

Probir Roy is an Indian particle physicist and a former professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He is also a senior scientist of the Indian National Science Academy at Bose Institute and a former Raja Ramanna fellow of Department of Atomic Energy at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India and Indian National Science Academy. Sumit Ranjan Das is a US-based Indian high energy physicist and a professor at the University of Kentucky. Known for his research on string theory, Das is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to physical sciences in 1998.

Known for his research on High energy colliders, Higgs bosons, neutrinos, Mukhopadhyaya is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to physical sciences in 2003.

Atish Dabholkar is an Indian theoretical physicist. He is currently the Director of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) with the rank of Assistant Director-General, UNESCO. Known for his research on the evolution of the electron proton mass ratio, Kanekar is a member of the International Astronomical Union and a recipient of Swarna Jayathi Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology. Kanak Saha is an Indian astrophysicist. He is an associate professor of astrophysics at Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics. His research interests include formation of galaxies in the early universe and their evolution. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for his contributions to physical sciences in 2021.
