Victoria Maternity Hospital, also known as Victoria Zenana Hospital, was the second biggest hospital in Hyderabad, India, after Afzalgunj Hospital. The hospital no longer exists and was converted into a block of Telangana High Court to house fire engines. The hospital has been shifted to a new location and today this building is called H-block of the High Court. [1] The building was previously categorised as a Heritage Building as per HUDA regulations and in 2010 was delisted from the list of Heritage building so as to be demolished and to be converted into a multi level car park for the employees of High Court and visitors. The government order to demolish was issued in April 2019 and the High Court had proposed that work be taken up in May during the summer vacations. The hospital premises also contains a fountain known as Dog Fountain from Qutub Shahi era which is also set to be demolished. [1] [2] On 16 May 2019, based on an appeal by heritage activists the order to demolish the Zenana building was stayed by High Court. [3]
This was the first hospital built in Hyderabad to exclusively treat women. [4] The foundation of the hospital was laid by Princess of Wales in 1905. [2] The building was built during the reign of the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad. [3] The hospital was earlier known as Zenana Hospital and later renamed as Victoria Maternity Hospital. [1] In 1957, Victoria Zenana Hospital was organised into Government Maternity Hospital. From Osmania General Hospital, maternity and gynaec beds were shifted to the newly reorganised hospital. [5] The world's first qualified women anesthetist Dr Rupa Bai Fardonji had worked in this hospital during the 1900s.
The Royal Exhibition Building is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed building in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, built in 1879–1880 as part of the international exhibition movement, which presented over 50 exhibitions between 1851 and 1915 around the globe. The building sits on approximately 26 hectares, is 150 metres (490 ft) long and is surrounded by four city streets. It is situated at 9 Nicholson Street in the Carlton Gardens, flanked by Victoria, Carlton and Rathdowne Streets, at the north-eastern edge of the central business district. It was built to host the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1880–81, and then hosted the even larger Centennial International Exhibition in 1888. It was then chosen as the site for the Federation of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. The building is representative of the financial wealth and pride that the city of Melbourne and state of Victoria had in the 1870s. Throughout the 20th century smaller sections and wings of the building were subject to demolition and fire; however, the main building, known as the Great Hall, survived.
The Charminar is a monument located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Constructed in 1591, the landmark is a symbol of Hyderabad and officially incorporated in the emblem of Telangana. The Charminar's long history includes the existence of a mosque on its top floor for more than 425 years. The Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) is a hospital dedicated to the care of women and children in Adelaide, South Australia. Asman Garh Palace located in Malakpet, a suburb of Hyderabad, was a palace belonging to the Paigahs of Hyderabad State. The palace was declared a heritage structure by INTACH. Asman means "sky", and Garh means "home", since the palace was located so high on a hillock.

The Portland Royal Naval Hospital was a naval hospital on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. Portland Harbour was a naval anchorage and fuelling facility, which grew to become a Naval Base and Royal Dockyard. A RN Hospital was initially established in the dockyard area in the 1870s, which served until it was replaced by a new purpose-built naval hospital, located close to Castletown, at the beginning of the 20th century. It closed in 1957, when it was handed over to the National Health Service, which still runs the hospital. It is now known as Portland Community Hospital.
Rupa Bai Furdoonji was an Indian Parsi doctor who was the world's first female anesthetist. She practiced medicine in Hyderabad, and played a major role in introducing the use of chloroform as an anesthetic in India.
