Vidyavati, former Vice-Chancellor, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana, India was born on 15 September 1939, in Goud community. She is President of Phycological Society of India. She was honored by Telangana State Government as Eminent Women on 8 March 2017, on the occasion of "International Women's Day" celebrations. [1]

Early life and education

She studied at Bansilal Balika Vidyalaya, Begum Bazaar, Hyderabad (Government High School) and passed Higher School Secondary Certificate in the year 1955. In 1957, she studied Intermediate at Koti Women’s College, Hyderabad. In 1959, she passed her graduation (B.Sc.) with Botany main, Zoology and Chemistry from the same college. She did post-graduation in M.Sc Botany with Hydrobiology main in Final level at Osmania University.

She was awarded Ph.D for her thesis on ‘Experimental and Cytological Studies on Certain Desmids’ from Osmania University in the year 1967 under the able guidance of Prof. Jafar Nizam [2] and Prof. M.R. Saxena. As most of the literature was in German, she passed Junior and Senior Diploma in German Language at Arts College, Osmania University,in the year 1963 - 65 for a period of 3 years. Her area of specialization is Hydrobiology, Phycology, Cytology and Ultrastructure Ecology.

Boianapalli Vinod Kumar is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament, presently serving as Vice-chairman of Telangana State Planning Board. He represented the Karimnagar constituency of Telangana State in the 16th Lok Sabha (2014-2019) and Hanamkonda constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004-2009). Kothapalli Jayashankar, popularly known as Professor Jayashankar, was an Indian academic and social activist. He was a leading ideologue of the Telangana Movement. He fought for a separate state beginning in 1952. He often stated that unequal distribution of river water was the root cause of the separate Telangana movement. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University and an activist in the Separate Telangana Movement.

Kailasa Venkata Ramiah was an educationist from Andhra Pradesh, India. He was born in Pegallapadu village of Khammam district. He stood first-in-first in both B.Sc and M.Sc from Osmania University and grew to head the Physics Department of Osmania University. He is recipient of the Sir Akbar Hyderi Gold medal and several awards during his career both as student and later as an academician. He finished his PhD in record time and later his research was in quantum mechanics and Raman effect. He published about 100 papers in both national and international journals. He served to become the first Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University (1976–79). He founded the University from its inception. It was his vision and efforts that led to the development of Kakatiya University in a short period of time.

Ch. Mohan Rao is an Indian molecular biologist. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Hyderabad. He was a visiting associate at the National Institutes of Health, US, during 1990–92. He was a visiting professor at the Tokyo Science University, Japan during 1996. Visiting Scientist, UTMB, Galveston, USA, Visiting Professor, Protein Research Institute, Osaka, Japan. Adjunct Professor, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He was positioned as director for the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, India. He is CSIR-Distinguished Scientist and Sir JC Bose National Fellow at CCMB He was awarded in 1999 the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, the highest science award in India, in the Medical Sciences category.

University Arts & Science College is one of the oldest Arts and Science colleges in Telangana. It is located in Subedari, Hanamakonda. The college offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. It is also called the second campus of the Kakatiya University.

The architecture of Telangana dates back over two thousand years. The Indian state of Telangana is in the Deccan plateau, bordering the coastal plain of Andhra Pradesh.
