Vithya Ramraj (born 20 September 1998) is an Indian athlete from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She is a three-time National champion. She competes in 100m and 400m hurdles and 400 metres. [1] On 2 October 2023 at the 2022 Asian Games, she equalled the Indian national record of 55.42s in 400m hurdles set by P. T. Usha at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. [2] She won the 400m hurdles bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on October 3. [3] [4]
Vithya qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Vithya hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Her father is a truck driver and her mother Meena is a home maker. [5] Her identical twin Nithya is also an athlete. Vithya works with Indian Railways. The girls started playing hockey and her mother enrolled them in the Erode Girls Sports School for Class 7. [6] She earned her BBA Degree from Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode (2016 to 2019) on a sports scholarship provided by the KVIT Trust, Perundurai. She received good support from the college management and faculty. Dr. A. Sankar, Director of Physical Education at Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode, encouraged and supported her training and participation in national-level events.
Till 2017, Vithya also ran 100m and 200m sprint events but later focussed on 400m hurdles. But she and her coach decided that she will do both 400m and 400m hurdles and she is also continuing with both 100m events. The tournaments she took part in 2023 are: [1]
She won a silver medal at the2022 Asian Games, winning the 4x400m mixed relay team along with Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan. [3]
India competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. India didn't win a medal but the Games are remembered for bringing Indian women athletes centre stage. P. T. Usha lost the bronze medal in 400 metre hurdles by one-hundredth of a second. Earlier in the Games, Shiny Abraham reached the semifinals of 800 metres with a personal best of 2:04.69 seconds and became the first Indian woman to reach the semi-finals of an Olympic event. She finished last in the semifinal.
Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha is an Indian sports administrator and retired track and field athlete. Usha was born in Koothali near Perambra in Kozhikode district, Kerala. She grew up in Payyoli. Usha has been associated with Indian athletics since 1979. She has won 4 gold medals and 7 silver medals in the Asian Games. She is often associated as the "Queen of Indian track and field".
Avinashi is a municipality in the Tiruppur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Avinashi is one among the nine taluks of the district. Deshabandu Kobala Vithanage Damayanthi Dharsha-Kobalavithanage is a retired Sri Lankan athlete who competed in the 200 and 400 metres race events. She is the current Asian Games record holder in women's 200m event and current Asian Athletics Championships record holder in women's 400m event as well as national record holder in women's 400m. She is regarded as one of the greatest track and field athletes to have represented Sri Lanka at international level alongside her teammate Susanthika Jayasinghe. She is also regarded as the most successful Sri Lankan athlete at the Asian Games with a medal haul of four medals including three gold medals and became the first Sri Lankan female athlete to clinch three Asian Games gold medals. She represented Sri Lanka at the Olympics on three occasions in 1992, 2000 and 2004. She also represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games on four occasions in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006 as well as at the South Asian Games on four occasions.

Dipna Lim Prasad is a Singaporean sprinter and hurdler. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's 100 metres hurdles. Dipna specialises in the 100 metres hurdles but also competes in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres hurdles, 4x100 metres relay, and 4 x 400 metres relay.
Janieve Russell is a Jamaican track and field athlete who competes mainly in the 400 metres hurdles and the 400 metres sprint. She won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 × 400 m relay in Tokyo 2021, where she also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles final in a personal best of 53.08 secs. Dharun Ayyasamy is an Indian track athlete. He specialises in the 400 metres and the 400 metres hurdles events. He participated in the 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He's the first and only Indian to run below 49sec (48.80sec) in 400m Hurdles.
Subha Venkatesan is an Indian athlete. She competed in the women's 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2019 World Athletics Championships. In July 2021, she was selected for representing India at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the mixed 4 × 400 metres relay. She was part of the women's 4 × 400 m relay Indian team along with Vithya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra and Prachi Choudhary that won silver at the 2022 Asian Games. She also won a silver medal in the 4 x 400m mixed relay event along with Vithya Ramraj, Muhammad Ajmal and Rajesh Ramesh.
Cathelijn Peeters is a Dutch track and field athlete who competes in hurdling and sprinting and previously competed in the combined events and hammer throw. Peeters specializes in the 400 metres hurdles and in the 400 metres. In the 4 × 400 metres relay, she is the 2023 World Champion and the 2024 World Indoor Champion with the Dutch women's team and the 2024 Olympic Champion with the Dutch mixed team.
Nithya Ramraj is an Indian athlete from Tamil Nadu. She competes in 100m hurdles. She represented India at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. She is India's No.2 in the sprint hurdles behind top athlete Jyothi Yarraji in the rankings.
