Vladimir Landsman

Vladimir Landsman (born 21 December 1941 in Dushanbe) is a Soviet-Canadian violinist and teacher.

Biography

Vladimir Landsman started to play violin at the age of five. At the age 12, following David Oistrakh's advise, he had entered the Moscow Central Music School where he studied under Yuri Yankelevich. He then studied for four years at the Merzlyakovsky College, before entering the Moscow Conservatory, where he earned an Aspirantura diploma. He became a soloist member of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, and performed with such renowned conductors as Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Evgeny Svetlanov. In 1963 he won 3rd prize in Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris, and in 1966 he became a 1st prize winner at the Montreal International Music Competition, and since enjoyed an international career as a soloist, performing frequently throughout the world. In 1973 he emigrated to Israel, and shortly thereafter to Canada, of which he became a naturalized citizen in 1981. Since 1975, Landsman has taught at the Music Faculty of the University of Montreal, where he is currently an associate professor. [1] [2]

Sergei Polusmiak born in 1951 in Kharkiv, Ukraine is a Ukrainian Pianist "Merited Artist of Ukraine". He graduated from Kharkiv Music College in 1969 and from Kharkiv Conservatory in 1975, where he studied with Regina Horowitz, sister of Vladimir Horowitz. in 1978 he received the Post Graduate Diploma at Kiev Conservatory, Ukraine and in 1981 completed Advanced Studies at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Russia. From 1975 to 1998 Sergei Polusmiak was teaching at Kharkiv Conservatory and at the Kharkiv Special Music School for Gifted Children Sergei Polusmiak started his professional career as a music educator and as a concert pianist by teaching, giving master classes, playing solo piano recitals, chamber music recitals and as a soloist with symphony orchestras. For his contribution as a concert pianist Sergei Polusmiak was awarded the title of "Merited Artist of Ukraine" by the President of Ukraine. in 1996 Sergei Polusmiak became a Full Professor of piano at Kharkiv Institute of Arts.

Roger Lord is a Canadian performing classical pianist and professor of piano at l'Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Lord studied at Université de Moncton, McGill University, Université de Montréal, and the Moscow Piano Institute at the Gnessin Music Academy. He has also studied in Paris and Strasbourg.

Sergei Babayan is an Armenian-American pianist. Described by Le Devoir as a "genius", Babayan won many international competitions, including the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition in 1989 and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 1991. He appears as soloist with leading orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester, London Symphony Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, under such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Tugan Sokhiev, Neeme Järvi, Rafael Payare, and David Robertson.

Ronald Turini is a Canadian classical pianist, and the first Canadian artist to win a prize at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and the Geneva International Music Competition. Turini performed widely with prominent orchestras and in major concert halls. He was, together with Byron Janis and Gary Graffman, an acknowledged student of Vladimir Horowitz, and was known to be Horowitz' favourite student.

Nadir Khashimov is a classical violinist who began his studies at the age of 7. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with violinists Pamela Frank and Shmuel Ashkenasi. Previous teachers include Vakhob Khashimov, Sergiu Schwartz and Patricio Cobos. He has been awarded scholarships from the Vladimir Spivakov International Foundation and is also the winner of the Woodruff Award for Excellence.
