Walter ("Red") Bainbridge, Jr. was an American figure skater. He began skating in Washington state, when his father, geologist Walter H. Bainbridge, was posted there between 1938 and 1945. [1] [2] He competed in ice dance with Lois Waring. He was the national champion with Waring in 1947-1949 and North American Champion in 1947 and 1949. [3] He was inducted into the Professional Skaters Association Hall of Fame in 2009. [4]

Dick Button American figure skater, sports personality, actor, lawyer

Richard Totten "Dick" Button is an American former figure skater and skating analyst. He is a two-time Olympic champion and five-time World champion (1948–1952). He is also the only non-European man to have become European champion. Button is credited as having been the first skater to successfully land the double axel jump in competition in 1948, as well as the first triple jump of any kind – a triple loop – in 1952. He also invented the flying camel spin, which was originally known as the "Button camel."

Maribel Yerxa Vinson-Owen was an American figure skater and coach. She competed in the disciplines of ladies' singles and pair skating. As a single skater, she was the 1932 Olympic bronze medalist, a two-time World medalist, the 1937 North American champion, and a nine-time U.S. national champion. As a pair skater, she was the 1935 North American champion and four-time national champion with George Hill. She also won two national titles with Thornton Coolidge. She was the first female sportswriter at The New York Times, and continued competing and winning medals while working as a full-time reporter.

Gillis Grafström Swedish figure skater

Gillis Emanuel Grafström was a Swedish figure skater. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He won three successive Olympic gold medals in Men's Figure Skating as well as an Olympic silver medal in the same event in 1932, and three World Championships. He and Eddie Eagan are the only athletes to have won a gold medal at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Grafström has the further distinction of being the only person to have won an individual gold medal in both the Summer (1920) and Winter Olympics, although Eagan remains the only one to have managed the feat in different disciplines. Grafstrom is one of the few athletes who have competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic games. He is one of the oldest figure skating Olympic champions.

He competed in pairs with Veronica Clarke, Norah McCarthy, Eleanor O'Meara, Bunty Lang, and Betty Chambers, and in fours with fours with Dorothy Caley, Hazel Caley, and Montgomery Wilson, winning the 1939 North American title.

Lois Waring was an American figure skater. She competed in ice dance with Walter Bainbridge, and later with Michael McGean. She was the national champion with Bainbridge in 1947-1949 and North American Champion in 1947 and 1949. With McGean, she was the national champion in 1950 and 1952.

Barbara Ann Scott Canadian figure skater

Barbara Ann Scott was a Canadian figure skater. She was the 1948 Olympic champion, a two-time World champion (1947–1948), and a four-time Canadian national champion in ladies' singles. Known as "Canada's Sweetheart", she is the only Canadian to have won the Olympic ladies' singles gold medal, the first North American to have won three major titles in one year and the only Canadian to have won the European Championship (1947–48). During her forties she was rated among the top equestrians in North America. She received many honours and accolades, including being made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1991 and a member of the Order of Ontario in 2008.
