Motorsport(s), or motor sport(s), are sporting events, competitions and activities that primarily involve the use of automobiles. Historically, the terms have encompassed sporting use of other motorised vehicles including motorcycles, motorboats and powered aircraft, however, specific terms are now more commonly used in these areas such as motorcycle sport, power boating and air sports.
Bruce Leslie McLaren was a New Zealander racing car designer, driver, engineer, and inventor.
Colin Steele McRae, was a British rally driver. He was the 1991 and 1992 British Rally Champion, and in 1995 became the first British driver and the youngest person to win the World Rally Championship Drivers' title, a record which stood for 27 years until Kalle Rovanperä took the 2022 season title just a day after his 22nd birthday.
Raffaele "Ralph" DePalma was an Italian-American racecar driving champion who won the 1915 Indianapolis 500. His entry at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame estimates that he won about 2,000 races. DePalma won the 1908, 1909, 1910, and 1911 American AAA national dirt track championships and is credited with winning 24 American Champ car races. He won the Canadian national championship in 1929. DePalma estimated that he had earned $1.5 million by 1934 after racing for 27 years. He is inducted in numerous halls of fame. He competed on boards and dirt road courses and ovals.
Dennis "Duke" Nalon was an American midget car, sprint car, and Indy 500 driver from Chicago, Illinois, United States.
Walter Röhrl is a German rally and auto racing driver, with victories for Fiat, Opel, Lancia and Audi as well as Porsche, Ford and BMW. Röhrl has scored 14 victories over his career, with his notable achievements including winning the World Rally Championship twice: in 1980 in a Fiat Abarth and in 1982 while driving for Opel. He has also competed in other forms of motorsport, such as endurance racing, winning in the GTP +3.0 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1981 with the Porsche System team. Röhrl also set the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record in 1987 driving an Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. He is often regarded as one of the greatest rally drivers of all time.
Hannu Olavi Mikkola was a Finnish champion world rally driver. He was a seven-time winner of the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland and won the RAC Rally in Great Britain four times.
Malcolm Smith is a Canadian-American off-road racer.
Philip Lewis Mills is a Welsh rally racing co-driver. He was winner of the 2003 World Rally Championship (WRC), as co-driver to Petter Solberg.
William Alva Foster was a Canadian racecar driver.
Elliott Forbes-Robinson is a road racing race car driver. He is known for his race wins and championships in many different series, including the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), Super Vee, Trans-Am Series, CanAm, IMSA GTU, and the World Challenge. He is known in NASCAR circles as a road course ringer. He is also a founder of the Legends Cars of 600 Racing and he designed their original car.
Nobuhiro Tajima, nicknamed "Monster", is a hillclimb racer, tuning shop owner, rally team manager and former rally driver who is best known for his participation in Suzuki's rallying program as well as his triumphs at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in USA and Silverstone Race to the Sky in NZ.
Rodney Kenneth Millen is a New Zealand racing driver, vehicle designer, and business owner. He has competed in numerous genres of motorsports, including rally racing, off-road racing, hillclimbing, drifting, and super touring.
Rally of the Rideau Lakes was a rally competition held in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada. The rally originated from the Silver Lake Rally, a club rally started in the 1960s. Rally of the Rideau Lakes was first held in 1973, and it became part of the FIA World Rally Championship schedule for the 1974 season. The event was considered well-run and it influenced the Canadian Rally Championship, but due to financial problems it was never held again. However, the World Rally Championship returned to Canada in the 1977 season, when the Critérium du Quebec was included in the calendar.
Ross de St. Croix is a Canadian sports car racing driver. He is known for winning the 1967 Canadian Can-Am Championship in a McLaren and for being president of the Canadian Automobile Sports Club and the Montreal Motor Racing Club. Along with Bruce McLaren and Jim Hall, he is cited as the creator of the hugely successful Can-Am series in North America. He raced all disciplines of motorsport including National Rally's and Ice Racing in his native Quebec. He was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1994.
John Bird is a Canadian former rally racer. Teamed up with Bruce Simpson, they entered a combined total of 140 rallies, winning 102 of them. John was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2006.
John Graham is a Canadian professional racing driver. He has driven in numerous road racing series such as IMSA. He also has experience in NASCAR.
Walter Wolf Racing was a Formula One constructor active from 1977 to 1979, which won the first race the team entered. It was owned and run by Canadian Walter Wolf. The team was based in Reading, UK but raced with the Canadian licence.
Ed Pearlman is a co-founder of the National Off-Road Racing Association (1966), the first exclusively off-road racing organization, and its first president. The inaugurating event of NORRA was "Mexican 1000 Rally", which has become the Baja 1000. In 1978, he established the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.
The Rally Hall of Fame is a hall of fame for famous rally drivers and other persons who have had a great influence on rallying. The exhibition is part of the automobile and road museum Mobilia located at Kangasala, near the city of Tampere, in central Finland.
