Waterford Durant High School is an alternative high school in Waterford, Michigan. It is operated by the Waterford School District and is one of three high school within the district. [5]
The school was opened in 2009 Under the title “Waterford Alternative High School” and in 2012 was renamed and relocated to “Waterford Durant High School” and moved from a no longer standing building behind Waterford Kettering to WSD Administration/Crary Middle School (Closed 2017) Building located at 501 North Cass Lake Road.
For the 2019-2020 School year enrollment at waterford peaked at 280 9th-12th graders. Durant is open & accepting to students from across Oakland County.
Waterford Durant High School students are between the ages of 15 and 19 and have completed at least one year of high school at either Waterford Mott High School or Waterford Kettering High School. Durant High School students who fulfill Waterford School District graduation requirements earn a Waterford Durant High School diploma. [2]
The school provides a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment focused on earning credits to meet graduation requirements. Durant High School teachers identify individual student strengths and weaknesses and frequently modify their teaching methods to meet individual student needs. The goal of the school is to create a positive attitude towards learning, and to help foster the development of the interpersonal skills the student needs to become successful citizens. [2]

Waterford Durant High School was named for automobile industry pioneer William C. Durant.
Waterford's two other high schools were also named for automobile industry pioneers; Charles F. Kettering and Charles S. Mott.

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was a U.S. Act of Congress that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; it included Title I provisions applying to disadvantaged students. The Oregon Diploma is part of the public high school graduation requirements in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the end result of a redesign effort of Oregon's K-12 education system that focused on graduation requirements. The Oregon Diploma requirements were advocated for by Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction Susan Castillo and adopted by the Oregon State Board of Education in 2007. They were fully implemented by 2014. Students are required to do a minimum of 24 credits for subjects such as English, Social science, mathematics, etc. Students also have to meet Personalized Learning Requirements and Essential skills in Reading, Writing, and Math. Individual districts might have slightly different requirements, such as Portland Public Schools requiring 2 years of world language as part of the elective section. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021 were exempt from the Personalized Learning Requirements and Essential Skills to graduate. Individual School District's were not allowed in any circumstance to add or change requirements and were also not allowed to issue an District Diploma, they must issue an Oregon State Diploma. The class of 2022 are also exempt from Essential Skills requirement's, although they are still required to complete all the Personalized Learning Requirements.
