The Waterside Bridge is a planned pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Trent in Nottingham, England. When built, it will be the first new river bridge in Nottingham since the Clifton Bridge was built sixty years ago. [1] [2]
The bridge will be located approximately 450 metres (500 yd) downstream of Lady Bay Bridge, connecting Trent Fields in West Bridgford on the south bank, with Trent Basin in the City of Nottingham on the north bank.
The site has been chosen to connect to cycling infrastructure on both sides of the river. On the north bank, the bridge will connect with the riverside cycleway to Colwick Country Park, and also allow access to Nottingham City's Eastern Cycle Corridor. To the south, the riverside path carries National Cycle Route 15, and gives traffic-free access to the Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre; The Hook local nature reserve; Nottingham Forest's City Ground; County Hall and the West Bridgford Embankment. The bridge is due to be lifted into place in November 2025, and fully opened in the Spring of 2026. [3]

In 2023, funding had been secured and a contractor appointed to undertake detailed design and construction. [4] At that time, a planning application was expected in 2023, construction to start in 2024, and the bridge to open in 2025. [1]

The A453 road was formerly the main trunk road connecting the English cities of Nottingham and Birmingham. However, the middle section of this mainly single-carriageway road has largely been downgraded to B roads or unclassified roads following the construction of the parallel M42-A42 link around 1990. The M42 was originally meant to pass further north than it does, and to join the M1 at Sandiacre in Derbyshire. The M42/A42 does not enter Derbyshire, but instead joins the M1 closer to the A453 junction at Kegworth. The A42 shadows the former A453 from Appleby Magna to Castle Donington. The road historically connected the East Midlands with the West Midlands.

O Mahurangi Penlink, is a 7-kilometre-long (4.3-mile), two-lane future state highway. Construction began in late 2022 and is expected to conclude in late 2026. The Meadows or Meadows is an area of Nottingham, England, south of the city centre, close to the River Trent and connected to West Bridgford in the Borough of Rushcliffe by Trent Bridge and the Wilford Suspension Bridge. Victoria Embankment runs alongside the River Trent to the south of the Meadows and is home to the Nottingham War Memorial Gardens.

The Govan-Partick Bridge is a new bridge in Glasgow, Scotland, to carry pedestrians and bicycles across the River Clyde, connecting Water Row in Govan to Pointhouse Quay in Partick, close to the Riverside Museum. To allow ships including PS Waverley to pass by, its swing bridge main span can rotate to align with the south shore. The official opening ceremony on 6 September 2024 was followed by public access from the next day, when crowds celebrated with community events on both sides of the river.
Nottinghamshire County Hall is a large municipal building located at Loughborough Road on the south bank of the River Trent at West Bridgford in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, England. It is the headquarters of Nottinghamshire County Council which is the upper tier local authority and has jurisdiction across the whole of Nottinghamshire except the City of Nottingham which is administered independently by the unitary authority of Nottingham City Council. The county council is building a new headquarters near Hucknall to replace County Hall, due to open in 2025.
