Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao, FRS known as C. R. Rao is an Indian-American mathematician and statistician. He is currently professor emeritus at Pennsylvania State University and Research Professor at the University at Buffalo. Rao has been honoured by numerous colloquia, honorary degrees, and festschrifts and was awarded the US National Medal of Science in 2002. The American Statistical Association has described him as "a living legend whose work has influenced not just statistics, but has had far reaching implications for fields as varied as economics, genetics, anthropology, geology, national planning, demography, biometry, and medicine." The Times of India listed Rao as one of the top 10 Indian scientists of all time. Rao is also a Senior Policy and Statistics advisor for the Indian Heart Association non-profit focused on raising South Asian cardiovascular disease awareness.
Sir Arthur Lyon Bowley, FBA was an English statistician and economist who worked on economic statistics and pioneered the use of sampling techniques in social surveys.
Gertrude Mary Cox was an American statistician and founder of the department of Experimental Statistics at North Carolina State University. She was later appointed director of both the Institute of Statistics of the Consolidated University of North Carolina and the Statistics Research Division of North Carolina State University. Her most important and influential research dealt with experimental design; In 1950 she published the book Experimental Designs, on the subject with W. G. Cochran, which became the major reference work on the design of experiments for statisticians for years afterwards. In 1949 Cox became the first woman elected into the International Statistical Institute and in 1956 was President of the American Statistical Association.
George Edward Pelham Box was a British statistician, who worked in the areas of quality control, time-series analysis, design of experiments, and Bayesian inference. He has been called "one of the great statistical minds of the 20th century".
David Alan Dickey is an American statistician who has specialised in time series analysis. He is a William Neal Reynolds Professor in the Department of Statistics at North Carolina State University. The Dickey–Fuller test is named for him and Wayne Arthur Fuller. David Dickey is listed as an ISI highly cited researcher by the ISI Highly Cited Database of the ISI Web of Knowledge. He is an elected Fellow (2000) of the American Statistical Association. He is from Ohio.
Morris Howard Hansen (1910–1990) was an American statistician. While at the United States Census Bureau, he was one of the first to develop methods for statistical sampling and made contributions in many areas of surveys and censuses.
Chien-Fu Jeff Wu is the Coca-Cola Chair in Engineering Statistics and Professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is known for his work on the convergence of the EM algorithm, resampling methods such as the bootstrap and jackknife, and industrial statistics, including design of experiments, and robust parameter design.
Jianqing Fan is a statistician, financial econometrician, and writer. He is currently the Frederick L. Moore '18 Professor of Finance, a Professor of Statistics, and a former Chairman of Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering (2012–2015) at Princeton University.
Pandurang Vasudeo Sukhatme (1911–1997) was an Indian statistician. He is known for his pioneering work of applying random sampling methods in agricultural statistics and in biometry, in the 1940s. He was also influential in the establishment of the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute. As a part of his work at the Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, he developed statistical models for assessing the dimensions of hunger and future food supplies for the world. He also developed methods for measuring the size and nature of the protein gap.
Clifford George Hildreth was an American econometrician. He was a head of the Department of Economics at Michigan State University.
Marvin Zelen was Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), and Lemuel Shattuck Research Professor of Statistical Science. During the 1980s, Zelen chaired HSPH's Department of Biostatistics. Among colleagues in the field of statistics, he was widely known as a leader who shaped the discipline of biostatistics. He "transformed clinical trial research into a statistically sophisticated branch of medical research."
Noel Cressie is an Australian and American statistician. He is Distinguished Professor and Director, Centre for Environmental Informatics, at the University of Wollongong in Wollongong, Australia.
Olive Jean Dunn was an American mathematician and statistician, and professor of biostatistics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She described methods for computing confidence intervals and also codified the Bonferroni correction's application to confidence intervals. She authored the textbook Basic Statistics: A Primer for the Biomedical Sciences in 1977.
David Rindskopf is an American psychologist and applied statistician, currently a Distinguished Professor at City University of New York, and a published author of both books and many articles in refereed journals.. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), was the President of its New York section, and American Educational Research Association (AERA) and also former editor of the ASA-AERA journal Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics.
Mary Elinore Thompson is a Canadian statistician. She is Distinguished Professor Emerita of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo, the former president of the Statistical Society of Canada, and the founding scientific director of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute. Her research interests include survey methodology and statistical sampling; she is also known for her work applying statistics to guide tobacco control policy.
Daniel Robert Jeske is an American statistician, a Vice Provost at the University of California, Riverside, President of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics, and former editor-in-chief of The American Statistician.
James E. Gentle is an American statistician and author. He was a professor of statistics at George Mason University until his retirement in 2016. He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews: Computational Statistics and Senior Editor of Communications in Statistics.
Rachel Margaret Harter is an American statistician and an expert in small area estimation and survey methodology. She works at RTI International as a senior research statistician and as director of the Behavioral Statistics Program.
Luke Tierney is an American statistician and computer scientist. A fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics since 1988 and of the American Statistical Association since 1991, Tierney is currently a professor of statistics at the University of Iowa. Through his past work on programming languages such as R and Lisp, Tierney now holds a position on the developing team known as the R Core.
