The Family Court of Australia was a superior Australian federal court of record which deals with family law matters,such as divorce applications,parenting disputes,and the division of property when a couple separate. Together with the Federal Circuit Court of Australia,it covered family law matters in all states and territories of Australia except for Western Australia,which has a separate Family Court. Its core function was to determine cases with the most complex law,facts and parties,to cover specialised areas in family law,and to provide national coverage as the national appellate court for family law matters.

The Chief Justice of Western Australia is the most senior judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the highest ranking judicial officer in the Australian state of Western Australia. The chief justice is both the judicial head of the Supreme Court as well as the administrative head. Sir Laurence Whistler Street,was the 14th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales. He was the third generation of the Street family to serve in these viceregal offices and the youngest since 1844. Street fought in World War II and became a commander in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and an honorary colonel in the Australian Army Reserve.

James Joshua Edelman has been a justice of the High Court of Australia since 30 January 2017,and is a former justice of the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Western Australia. He is noted for his various achievements at a young age,including becoming a professor at Oxford University before the age of 35 and a justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia before the age of 40. He was 43 years old upon commencing his appointment on the High Court and is eligible to continue until reaching the constitutionally required retirement age of 70 in 2044.
Peter Damien Quinlan,SC is the Lieutenant-Governor of Western Australia. He was sworn in on the 27 November 2019. He is also the Chief Justice of Western Australia. His appointment was announced on 1 August 2018,and took effect on 13 August. He was the Solicitor-General of Western Australia from 2016 to 2018.
