Marion is a city in and the county seat of Grant County, Indiana, United States, along the Mississinewa River. The population was 28,310 as of the 2020 census. It is named for Francis Marion, a brigadier general from South Carolina in the American Revolutionary War.

Suzanne Marie "Suzy" Semanick is an American former figure skater. She competed in ice dance at the 1988 Winter Olympics with Scott Gregory. Natalie Kimberly "Kim" Seybold-Catron is an American former pair skater. Competing with her brother Wayne Seybold, she won five senior international medals, became a two-time U.S. national silver medalist, and competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The pair grew up in Marion, Indiana and were coached by Ronald Ludington from 1984 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Jill Marilynn Watson is an American retired pair skater and coach. With her partner Peter Oppegard, she is the 1988 Olympic bronze medalist and a three-time U.S. national champion.

The 2008 Indiana gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2008. Incumbent Republican nominee Mitch Daniels was challenged by Democratic nominee Jill Long Thompson and Libertarian nominee Andy Horning. Daniels easily won reelection, defeating Long Thompson by over 17 points. Despite Daniels' landslide victory, Barack Obama narrowly carried Indiana in the concurrent presidential election; the only Democratic candidate to do so since 1964.

Charles Webster Jewett was an Indiana lawyer and Republican politician. Jewett, who studied law at Harvard University, was chosen as chairman of the Marion County Republican Committee in 1914. He was the mayor of Indianapolis from 1918 to 1921. In the 1917 Republican primary election for the mayoral candidacy, Jewett had defeated Samuel L. Shank who eventually succeeded him as mayor. In 1938, Jewett ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives and lost to the incumbent Louis Ludlow.

Chauncey Robert Bangs was a Canadian pair skater. He was born in Ottawa, Ontario. With partner Marion McDougall, he won the gold medal at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1927 and 1928. He later paired with Frances Claudet, capturing the 1931 Canadian title. The duo finished sixth at the 1932 Winter Olympic Games and fifth at that year's World Figure Skating Championships.

A general election was held in the U.S. state of Indiana on November 4, 2014. Three of Indiana's executive officers were up for election as well as all of Indiana's nine seats in the United States House of Representatives. The Republican nominees won all three statewide elections and all of Indiana's U.S. Representatives were re-elected.

Kelly Mitchell is an American politician and businesswoman who served as the 54th Indiana State Treasurer. She was elected treasurer on November 4, 2014 and assumed office early on November 18, 2014. She replaced interim Treasurer, Daniel Huge, who took over after Richard Mourdock resigned. Mitchell was an at-large delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Indiana. She was a candidate in the 2020 Republican primary in Indiana's 5th congressional district. Mitchell received 5.3% of the vote in the 2020 Republican primary. In late 2021, Mitchell and several staff members were included in a lawsuit alleging a mishandling of state contracts via a whistleblower.
