Waynesboro is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is a principal city of the Staunton-Waynesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. Waynesboro is located in the Shenandoah Valley and is surrounded by Augusta County. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,196.

The groundbreaking for a new Carver High School was held April 2, 2008 at the construction site just off Oak Street across from the existing school. Its design utilizes modern advances in architecture, construction and technology. The $36 million school is the first of six new schools scheduled in the first phase of the MPS building program. The Carver High School ribbon cutting ceremony was held in August 2010 with the school serving approximately 1,200 students.

Located on the east end of Long Island, the school is the easternmost high school in New York State. Ann Smith Bedsole is an American politician, businesswoman, community activist, and philanthropist. She was the first Republican woman to serve in the Alabama House of Representatives and, alongside Frances Strong, the first woman to serve in the Alabama Senate. In 2002, she was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor.
