Weekend Blockbusters is an Indian film production company based in Kochi, Kerala, India. It was established in 2014 by producer Sophia Paul. Its first production was the Malayalam film Bangalore Days (2014). In 2016, they produced two films - Kaadu Pookkunna Neram and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol .

History

Weekend Blockbusters debuted in film production in 2014 in Malayalam film industry by producing Bangalore Days , directed by Anjali Menon. The film jointly produced by Weekend Blockbusters and Anwar Rasheed Entertainments was a critical and commercial success. It collected an estimated sum close to ₹50 crore at the box office, and became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. [1] Their second production was Dr. Biju directed Kaadu Pookkunna Neram (2016) starring Indrajith Sukumaran. [2]

The next film was the domestic drama Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol , Mohanlal starring film directed by Jibu Jacob. The film started production on 15 July 2016 in Kozhikode, Kerala. [3] It was released in February 2017 and was a major commercial success with total gross over 50 crore worldwide. It was followed by the comedy road movie Padayottam starring Biju Menon.

It stars Indrajith Sukumaran as a policeman, who is sent into deep jungles to capture the chief of a radical organization, played by Rima Kallingal, but instead finds himself trapped in it.

Aima Rosmy Sebastian is an Indian actress and dancer. She got recognition through her role in Jacobinte Swargarajyam, and prior to that film had been involved in classical Indian dance. Aima lives in Dubai. She married Kevin Paul on 4 January 2018 at Kadavoor in Kollam.

After a decade long career as a cinematographer, he made his debut as a director in 2014 with the political satire film Vellimoonga. His most recent directorial Mei Hoom Moosa released in September 2022.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is a 2017 Indian Malayalam-language domestic drama film directed by Jibu Jacob and written by M. Sindhuraj. It is loosely based on the Malayalam short story "Pranayopanishath" by V. J. James. Produced and distributed by Sophia Paul through Weekend Blockbusters, the film stars Mohanlal and Meena as panchayat secretary Ulahannan and his wife Annyamma. The soundtrack features songs composed by Bijibal and M. Jayachandran, and a film score by Bijibal. The film is about Ulahannan, a man having a midlife crisis, who rediscovers himself and overcomes boredom in his routine life.

Ezra is a 2017 Indian Malayalam-language supernatural horror thriller film written and directed by Jay K. starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Priya Anand, Tovino Thomas, Sujith Shankar, Vijayaraghavan and Sudev Nair in the leading roles. He launched Ashiq Usman Productions in 2012, As a producer his debut was Arikil Oraal which starred Indrajith Sukumaran, Remya Nambeesan, and Nivin Pauly. He was the producer of the blockbuster movie Anjaam Pathiraa, starring Kunchacko Boban. He is remaking the Malayalam movie Anjaam Pathiraa in Hindi language in association with Reliance Entertainment. His latest movie to hit theaters is Thallumaala starring Tovino Thomas and directed by Khalid Rahman.

L2: Empuraan, also called L2E, is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy. It is the second instalment in a planned trilogy, following the 2019 film Lucifer. The film is jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas. It stars Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumpally / Khureshi Ab'raam alongside an ensemble featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, Fazil and Sachin Khedekar all of whom are reprising their roles from the original.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is the soundtrack to the 2017 film of the same name directed by Jibu Jacob and produced by Weekend Blockbusters, starring Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles. The film's musical score is composed by Bijibal, who contributed two songs to the four-song soundtrack, while the remaining two songs were composed by M. Jayachandran. The lyrics were written by Rafeeq Ahamed, Madhu Vasudevan, and D. B. Ajithkumar. The film's soundtrack was released on 4 December 2016.
