In 1995 he was inducted into the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame.

Aruba sent a delegation to compete at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States from 19 July to 4 August 1996. This was Aruba's third appearance at a Summer Olympic Games since separating from the Netherlands Antilles. The Aruban delegation consisted of three competitors, track and field athlete Miguel Janssen, weightlifter Junior Faro, and cyclist Lucien Dirksz. Janseen was eliminated in the first round of the men's 200 metres, Faro finished 21st in the men's middleweight, and Dirksz failed to finish his event.

The 1991 Pan American Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 2 to August 18, 1991. There were 4,519 athletes from 39 countries of the PASO community, with events in 33 different sports. The main stadium was the Estadio Panamericano, a multi-use stadium in Havana that holds 50,000 people.

Roberto Antonio Urrutia Herdez, known as Tony Urrutia, was a Cuban-American Olympic weightlifter. He later defected to, and competed for, the United States.

The 14th Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 7 to August 18, 1982, and included 2,420 athletes from nineteen nations competing in 25 different sports. Some events were held in Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos, and the eastern end of the island.

The 18th Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Maracaibo, Venezuela from August 8 to August 22, 1998, and included 31 nations and a total of 5,200 competitors.

The delegation consisted of three weightlifters; Quincy Detenamo, Gerard Garabwan, and Marcus Stephen. Their best performances were by Detenamo, who came 20th in the men's 76 kg category and Garabwan who finished 24th in the men's 91 kg event. Stephen failed to finish his event, but would later become President of the Republic.

Julio Cesar Salamanca Pineda is a Salvadoran weightlifter. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's 62 kg, finishing 11th. He also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the Men's 62 kg, ranking 2nd in Group B.

Yoelmis Hernández Paumier is a Cuban weightlifter competing in the 85 kg category. He finished in seventh place at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place in 2021 at Tokyo International Forum.

Weightlifting competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto was held from July 11 to 15 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Due to naming rights the arena was as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of fifteen weightlifting events were held: eight for men and seven for women.
