The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the 17th Asian Games, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event held in Incheon, South Korea. This was the third time South Korea hosted the Asian Games, and its' first time since 2002. Previously, it had also hosted the 1986 edition of the games.

Ilya Aleksandrovich Ilyin is a Kazakhstani weightlifter who has won four world championships. On 12 December 2015 at the President's Cup in Grozny, Russia, Ilyin set two world records in the −105 kg class: in the clean and jerk (246 kg) and in the total of (437 kg). Ilyin was named IWF World Weightlifter of the Year four times: in 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2015.
The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games, was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017. It became the third city in the former Soviet countries to win the right of hosting an Olympic Council of Asia-sanctioned event, following Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan, which jointly-hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games. The host city was chosen in Kuwait on 19 December 2010. On 6 July 2013 the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat.
Om Yun-chol or Um Yoon-chul is a North Korean weightlifter, Olympic Champion, and four time World Champion competing in the 56 kg category until 2018 and 55 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. He is 152 centimetres and weighs 55 kilograms (121 lb). Om represents the Amnokgang Sports Team.
