Wensley Rinaldo Bundel is a former Surinamese football manager and player who last managed S.V. Transvaal in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse. [1]

Contents

As a player, he played in the Hoofdklasse for S.V. Transvaal, and for the Suriname national team, helping Transvaal to five National titles, and two CONCACAF Champions Cups, during one of the clubs' most successful periods. He has also managed H.O.B. (House Of Billiards), Transvaal and the Suriname national team during the span of his career.

He is considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the history of the sport in Suriname, having also helped Suriname to win the CFU Championship in 1978. [2]

Career

Bundel began his football career in Paramaribo, playing with S.V. Transvaal in the SVB Hoofdklasse, the top flight of football in Suriname. [3] He played in the midfield with Roy Vanenburg and Pauli Corte in the sixties. [4] He was best friends with Roy George, of arch rivals S.V. Robinhood except for on the pitch, where competition was fierce. [5] In 1973, SV Transvaal went undefeated, winning the league title, as well as the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the first for a Surinamese club. [6] They defeated CRKSV Jong Colombia from the Netherlands Antilles 4–2 on aggregate score in the final. [7] In 1974, Transvaal won the league title again, and in 1975 they finished as runners-up in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, losing to Atlético Español from Mexico 5–1 on aggregate score in the final. He also helped Transvaal to the 1981 CONCACAF Champions' Cup finals once more, winning the title 2–1 on aggregate score against C.D. Atlético Marte from El Salvador. [8] On 10 January 1982, he played in a friendly match between S.V. Transvaal and AFC Ajax, which ended in a 3–0 loss at the National Stadion. [9]

International career

Bundel has played for the Suriname national team. He made his debut on 4 October 1970 in a 3–2 win against Trinidad and Tobago, in a friendly match hosted at the National Stadion. He played an important role in the countries 1970 and 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns, also helping his team to win the 1978 CFU Championship. [10]

Managerial career

After his playing career, Bundel started in coaching. [11] He was the manager for House Of Billiards, competing in the Hoofdklasse in 2003. [12] In 2005, Bundel coached the Suriname national team at the annual Suriprofs Tournament in Amsterdam, finishing in second place. [13]

In 2007, he coached the Suriname national under-19 team to a first place finish at the Inter-Guyana Games. [14] In 2008, he became the manager of the Suriname national team, ahead of the nations' 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. He also managed the team for the 2008 and 2010 Caribbean Cup qualifiers, and the 2010 Parbo Bier Cup. [15]

In 2010, he became the manager of his former club S.V. Transvaal. [16] After four turbulent seasons, and with the club at one point nearly facing relegation, Bundel resigned in 2014. [17] [18] [19] He was succeeded by former Transvaal player Jimmy Letnom. [20] [21]

Personal life

Bundel is the father of former Surinamese International Rosano Bundel who also played for S.V. Transvaal. On 24 March 2012 his Son was sentenced to life in Prison for the murder of George Tabetando in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, in what was known as the Cumberland Mall shootings of 2011. [22] He was 28 years old. [23]

Errol 'Emau' Rudolph Emanuelson is a retired Surinamese footballer who played as a forward for SV Robinhood in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He also spent a loan spell in Belgium playing for Sint-Niklaas.

Roché Emanuelson is a Surinamese footballer who plays as a defender for Boma Star in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He has also played for SV Transvaal, SV Robinhood, Royal '95 and SV Leo Victor in the past.

Edwien Reinier Schal, known as Wiene Schal is a retired Surinamese footballer who started his career as a forward for SV Transvaal in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. A striker for the majority of his career, he was utilized more as defender towards the end of his career. He is considered one of the greatest footballers in the countries history, having captained SV Transvaal to two CONCACAF Champions Cups and five national titles, in what is considered the golden age of the club's history.

Frits Lambertus Purperhart was a Surinamese football manager and player, a member of the Suriname Olympic Committee board of directors as well as being a board member for the National broadcasting network Telesur in Suriname.

Remie Jacques Olmberg is a retired Surinamese footballer who played as a defender for SV Robinhood in the Hoofdklasse, and the Suriname national team. He was the team captain for SV Robinhood for a decade during one of the club's most successful periods, having won three national titles and finishing as runners-up in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on three occasions as well. He also won the Surinamese Footballer of the Year award twice.

Rinaldo Stanley Entingh is a former Surinamese footballer. He played as a midfielder in the SVB Hoofdklasse for S.V. Robinhood and for the Suriname national team.

Humbert Ronald Boerleider, known as Boelie, was a Surinamese football manager and player who played as a midfielder in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse for S.V. Transvaal. He also played one season in the SVB Derde Klasse for V.V. Ajax before returning to Transvaal. He was an assistant coach for Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands, and managed S.V. Transvaal and the Suriname national team for the nations 1974 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Wilfred 'Omoe' Frederik Garden is a retired Surinamese footballer who played as a defender for SV Robinhood in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. Together with Remie Olmberg, he formed the heart of the defense for both Robinhood and for the national team. He played for over a decade during one of the club's most successful periods, having won six national titles and finishing as runners-up in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on three occasions as well. He also won the Surinamese Footballer of the Year award on two occasions.

Siegfried Haltman, known as Siki, was a Surinamese football player who played for S.V. Robinhood, América Futebol Clube (PE), Baltimore Bays, AZ'67 and for the Suriname national team during the span of his career. In 1964 he won the Surinamese Footballer of the Year award, becoming the first recipient of the award since its inception.

Transvaal, winning six Hoofdklasse titles, and two CONCACAF Champions Cups, finishing as the league top scorer in both 1968 and in 1971. He had previously played for H.V.V. and S.V. Robinhood before joining Transvaal in 1967.

Andy Jozua Atmodimedjo is a Surinamese football manager and former player, who is currently the manager of Inter Moengotapoe. He spent most of his professional playing career with S.V. Robinhood, winning four Hoofdklasse titles. He had previously played for Producers in the Hoofdklasse before joining Robinhood in 1986.

Harald Reumel, known by his nickname Brammerloo is a former Surinamese football player, who played in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse for The Goal Getters and S.V. Transvaal, and for the Suriname national team. He spent most of his professional playing career with S.V. Transvaal, winning six consecutive national titles, and two CONCACAF Champions Cup, finishing as the league top scorer in 1966.

Sport Vereniging Prakash is a Surinamese football club based in Nieuw Nickerie. The club presently competes in the 1e Klasse of the Nickerie Voetbal Bond and the Lidbondentoernooi. They have previously played in the Hoofdklasse and the Eerste Klasse, having made one appearance in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, where they lost in the Second round to SV Transvaal.
