WestfalenBahn is a railway company operating regional train service in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, Northern Germany. It was founded in 2005 by Essener Versorgungs & Verkehrsgesellschaft, Minden Museum Railway, moBiel and Verkehrsbetriebe Extertal, each having a 25% share. In 2008 Essener Versorgungs & Verkehrsgesellschaft's share was sold to Abellio Deutschland. In July 2017 Abellio bought out the other shareholders. [1]

Services

WestfalenBahn has operated routes RB61, RB65, RB66 and RB72 since 9 December 2007. [2] [3] These will pass to Eurobahn in December 2017. [4] [5] [6] [7] These are operated by a fleet of fourteen 3-car and five 5-car Stadler Flirts. [8]

On 13 December 2015 WestfalenBahn commenced a 15-year contract to operate the RE15, RE60 and RE70 services. [7] [9] [10] To operate these services, 15 Stadler Flirt and 13 Stadler Kisses were leased from Alpha Trains. [11] [12] [13]

The Löhne–Rheine railway is a two-track, continuously electrified railway main line from Löhne in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia via Osnabrück in Lower Saxony to Rheine in North Rhine-Westphalia. It runs parallel to the Wiehen Hills to the north and to the Teutoburg Forest to the south. The line opened in 1855 and 1856 and was one of the oldest railways in Germany.

The line is named after the Ems river, which it follows for almost its entire length. The line opened in 1854 and 1856 and is one of the oldest railways in Germany.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Herford–Himmighausen railway</span>

The Herford–Himmighausen railway is a 48 km-long line from Herford via Detmold to Himmighausen and is a single-track and electrified main line. It is located in Ostwestfalen-Lippe in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is part of Deutsche Bahn’s Münster-Ostwestfalen regional network (MOW), which has its headquarters in Münster. In Herford this route is known as the Lippische Bahn. The line from Herford to Detmold was built by the Cologne-Minden Railway Company.

The Bassum–Herford Railway is a now partially disused railway line from Herford in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia via Bünde to Bassum in Lower Saxony.

The Hellweg net consists of the four Regionalbahn lines in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia: RB 50, RB 59, RB 69 and RB 89. It has a length of about 370 km. The RB 50 is referred to as Der Lüner, the RB 59 as Die Hellweg-Bahn and the RB 69 and RB 89 together as Die Ems-Börde-Bahn. On 14 December 2008 operations were taken over by eurobahn. Previously these four Regionalbahn services were operated by DB Regio NRW.

The Ems-Leine-Express is the name of a German Regional-Express service in North Rhine-Westphalia that has connected the Emsland city of Rheine, Lower Saxony, the regional centre of Osnabrück, the east Westphalian city of Minden and the Lower Saxony regional centres of Hanover and Braunschweig since 5 November 2000.
