William F. Banholzer (born January 23, 1957) is an American Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to this role, he was formally a chemical engineer and Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at the Dow Chemical Company. He is most known for his leadership of industrial R&D organizations at both Dow Chemical Company and General Electric. He is also known for the discovery of methods related to production of synthetic diamond. In particular, the synthesis methods he developed allowed the production of isotopically pure diamonds.
He also developed high temperature coatings, including those used in stealth technology. [1]
In 2002, Banholzer was elected as a member into the National Academy of Engineering for breakthroughs in stealth materials and contributions to the isotope effect in solid-state physics, and for business leadership.
Banholzer received his bachelor's in chemistry (with Math emphasis) from Marquette University in 1979 and his master's and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. His Ph.D. was granted in 1983. Banholzer's graduate work was with R.A. Masel studying fundamental interactions with implications for catalysis. His thesis study was "The Interaction of Nitric Oxide and Carbon Monoxide with Platinum."
While a major contributor to the development of Radar-absorbent material for stealth technology, Banholzer is known primarily for the discovery, characterization, and commercial application of the Lopresti method to create synthetic diamond. His work enabled the characterization of diamonds with exceptionally high purity and isotope composition. Banholzer was interviewed on the CBS News show 60 Minutes concerning the unique properties of these materials and over contentions surrounding inventorship. Oyekan was the President and CEO of Prafis Energy Solutions, an oil refining and energy consulting company. During his career, he has been involved in both research and development and management at a number of major oil companies. William Hultz Walker was an American chemist and professor. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1890 at Penn State College and took his Ph.D. at Göttingen (1892). In 1894 he accepted the chair of industrial chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where from 1908 he was also director of the research laboratory of applied chemistry. Walker was vice president of the International Congress of Applied Chemistry in 1893 and president of the American Electrochemical Society in 1910. The New York Section of the American Chemical Society conferred on him its Nichols medal in 1908.

Edwin Niblock Lightfoot, Jr. was an American chemical engineer and Hilldale Professor Emeritus in the department of chemical and biological engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is known for his research in transport phenomena, including biological mass-transfer processes, mass-transport reaction modeling, and separations processes. He, along with R. Byron Bird and Warren E. Stewart, co-authored the classic textbook Transport Phenomena. In 1974 Lightfoot wrote Transport Phenomena and Living Systems: Biomedical Aspects of Momentum and Mass Transport. He was the recipient of the 2004 National Medal of Science in Engineering Sciences.
Edward Wilson Merrill was an American biomaterials scientist. He was one of the founders of bioengineering, and specifically the biomedical engineering field it developed from chemical engineering. Merrill was born to Edward Clifton Merrill (1881–1949), a chemical engineer and chief chemist of the United Drug Company (Rexall) and Gertrude Wilson (1895–1978).

Juan J. de Pablo is a chemical engineer, Liew Family professor in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago and senior scientist at Argonne National Laboratory.
