Wolfgang Ott (born 1957) is an Austrian sex offender, murderer and alleged serial killer, whose actions are considered some of the most spectacular criminal cases in his home country.
Wolfgang Ott was sentenced to 15 months probation and psychiatric treatment at the age of 16 for sexual assault. After two failed kidnapping attempts on women, he kidnapped 23-year old bank employee Sonja S. on May 30, 1995, and held her for three days in his home in Liesing, Vienna, where he repeatedly raped and abused her. He then went with her to Styria, where he undressed her on the bank of the Salza river, tied her up and threw her in the river, where she drowned. Her body was recovered on June 26 in Landl.
On June 10, 1995, he kidnapped the 19-year-old high school graduate Karin M. in Vienna, raped and abused her several times before strangling her on a bank of the Salza, burying the body in a wooded area in Palfau. Her body was found two years later, on June 6, 1997.
On June 12, 1995, he abducted a 43-year old businesswoman in Perchtoldsdorf and detained her in his home for over 20 hours, raping her as well. When he left the house for a short time, she managed to escape and alerted the police, who immediately began looking for Ott. In the meantime, Ott kidnapped and raped two more women, one of whom managed to escape. The other, a 23-year old mountain climber, he transported over 600 km in the trunk of his van to a bank of the Salza river and released her there, after she had promised to meet him again.
On June 20, 1995, Wolfgang Ott was arrested near the Attersee lake in Upper Austria by the gendarmerie. He had been riding a bicycle and had tried in vain to pose as a German tourist.
On June 23, 1995, the police found the body of 34-year old Helga V. near Sonja S.'s burial site. It is still being investigated if Ott has any connection to this crime. In addition, authorities are also trying to clarify whether he also murdered 17-year old Martina Posch, whose body was found on November 22, 1986, on the shores of lake Mondsee in Upper Austria.
On October 3, 1996, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and admission to an institution for mentally ill lawbreakers for the murder of Sonja S. On February 24, 1999, he was again sentenced to life imprisonment by the Landesgericht Leoben for the murder of Karin M.
On July 1, 2004, while working in the carpentry shop of the Graz-Karlau Prison, Ott hid himself in a box secured with snap-on hinges and let inmates load him into a hospital-owned truck that was to drive to the Maria Lankowitz satellite camp. At the prison, however, he was discovered during a routine inspection of the vehicle. For this, Ott faced the following consequences: he was withdrawn from the joinery and the local activity for the time being. He also got three weeks in solitary confinement. His escape attempt led to the installation of a pulse rate meter in the lock area.
On April 24, 2017, after being found with about 20 painkillers in his detention room at the Stein Prison, was admitted to the Krems Hospital with suspected drug abuse. [1] Three days later, on April 27, 2017, he was returned to the detention center. The reason behind the incident is unknown.

Joachim Georg Kroll was a German serial killer, child molester, necrophile and cannibal who murdered a minimum of eight women and young girls in the Ruhr metropolitan region from 1955 until his arrest on 3 July 1976. He was convicted of eight murders and one attempted murder, but confessed to a total of 14. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 8 April 1982.
Following the historic Lindbergh kidnapping, the United States Congress passed a federal kidnapping statute—known as the Federal Kidnapping Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1201(a)(1) —which was intended to let federal authorities step in and pursue kidnappers once they had crossed state lines with their victim. The act was first proposed in December 1931 by Missouri Senator Roscoe Conkling Patterson, who pointed to several recent kidnappings in the Missouri area in calling for a federal solution. Initial resistance to Patterson's proposal was based on concerns over funding and state's rights. Consideration of the law was revived following the kidnapping of Howard Woolverton in late January 1932. Woolverton's kidnapping featured prominently in several newspaper series researched and prepared in the weeks following his abduction, and were quite possibly inspired by it. Two such projects, by Bruce Catton of the Newspaper Enterprise Association and Fred Pasley of the Daily News of New York City, were ready for publication within a day or two of the Lindbergh kidnapping. Both series, which ran in papers across North America, described kidnapping as an existential threat to American life, a singular, growing crime wave in which no one was safe.

The Ripper Crew or the Chicago Rippers was an organized crime group of serial killers, cannibals, rapists, and necrophiles. The group composed of Robin Gecht and three associates: Edward Spreitzer, and brothers Andrew and Thomas Kokoraleis. They were suspected in the murders of 17 women in Illinois in 1981 and 1982, as well as the unrelated fatal shooting of a man in a random drive-by shooting. According to one of the detectives who investigated the case, Gecht "made Manson look like a Boy Scout."
Chillicothe Correction Institution, or CCI, is a state-run medium security prison on the west bank of the Scioto River just outside Chillicothe, Ohio. It is located adjacent to Ross Correctional Institution and Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. The prison is a former military camp, named for Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman. It later became a federal penitentiary and has housed several high-profile prisoners including Charles Manson in 1952, bootlegger and future NASCAR driver Junior Johnson, and serial killer Anthony Sowell.
David Joseph Carpenter, also known as The Trailside Killer, is an American serial killer and serial rapist known for stalking and murdering a variety of individuals on hiking trails in state parks near San Francisco, California. He attacked at least ten individuals and was convicted in seven murders and was confirmed to be the killer in an eighth murder; Carpenter is also suspected in two additional killings. Two victims, Steven Haertle and Lois Rinna, mother of television personality Lisa Rinna, survived. Carpenter used a .38 caliber handgun in all but one of the killings. A .44 caliber handgun was used in the killing of Edda Kane on Mount Tamalpais.

Paul Durousseau is an American serial killer who murdered seven young women in the southeastern United States between 1997 and 2003. German authorities suspect he may have also killed several local women when he was stationed there with the United States Army during the early 1990s. Typically, Durousseau would gain the victim's trust, enter the victim's home, tie their hands, rape, then strangle them to death. All of his known victims were young, single African-American women.

Since his victims were all five to nine years of age, he is also known as the Bahadurgarh baby killer.

James Edward Wood was an American murderer, serial rapist and self-confessed serial killer. A violent sex offender with an extensive criminal record, Wood was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1993 murder of 11-year-old Jeralee Underwood in Pocatello, Idaho; following his arrest, he was investigated for several murders committed while living in Louisiana, none of which were definitively linked to him. He died at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in 2004.
Jose Guerrero is an American serial killer and rapist who abducted and killed three women and attempted to kill a fourth between 1995 and 1998 in Madera, California. The murders remained unsolved for nearly six years until DNA implicated Guerrero after he was jailed for a DUI. He was later found guilty and given the death penalty in 2009.
Deangelo Kenneth Martin is an American serial killer who murdered four women and raped two others in Detroit between February 2018 and June 2019. Martin was arrested on June 7, 2019, and sentenced to 45–70 years in prison on October 6, 2022.
