The X Factor is a British television music competition to find new singing talent; the winner of which receives a £1 million recording contract with the Syco Music record label. The first series was broadcast from 4 September to 11 December 2004. The competition was split into several stages: auditions, bootcamp, judges' homes and live shows, with Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell as judges. Kate Thornton presented the show on ITV, whilst Ben Shephard presented the spin-off show The Xtra Factor on ITV2.

The first season began airing on MediaCorp Channel U on 2 January, 2006 and ended on 3 April, 2006. The original lineup of judges were Foong Wai See, Cavin Soh and Peter Tan. Li Feihui was brought in as the fourth judge in the first week of semi-final. Hong Junyang, Dasmond Koh and Sugianto hosted the show.

Day after the first live show aired it was announced that Slavko would be replaced as well. On January 14, 2014, Ana Grubin revealed she will be new host, while Una Senić and Sneže Velkov report from the backstage.
The third season of the Singaporean reality talent show Project SuperStar began on 18 August 2014. It was broadcast on MediaCorp Channel U and simulcast on Toggle Live. The show was hosted by Dasmond Koh, with Jeremy Chan and Shane Pow acting as managers for the contestants. Roy Li and Dawn Yip returned as judges for their third season, and they were joined by Eric Ng who appeared as a judge for the first time. Taiwanese singer Tiger Huang and former judge Lee Wei Song served as the guest judges at the grand final.
X Factor Adria is a Balkan production of international talent show franchise of The X Factor. The Adria edition of the show covers Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia
After the first series the original production company lost their licence which was then acquired by Prva, Serbian broadcaster and production company. It was revealed that Croatian broadcaster RTL was interested in bringing the show to Croatia as well, and that would broadcast it.
In late February 2015 it was announced that Aleksandra Kovač, Massimo, Tonči Huljić and Željko Joksimović would judge the series. Shortly after that Antonija Blaće, Sneža Velkov and Aleksandar Radojičić would take the roles of show hosts. The season premiered on 22 March 2015.

The fifth and final season began on 10 September 2017 and concluded on 17 December 2017. The first season premiered on 7 October 2018 and has since been broadcast on Television Malta. The show was used to determine the artist that would represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019 and 2020. The director and actor Andreas Georgiou takes over the presentation of the live shows, who replaced Despina Vandi. Singer Ilias Bogdanos and singer Katerina Lioliou were the backstage-hosts, who replaced Aris Makris. Ilias Psinakis was the guest judge only in the live shows. Nikos Mouratidis was the guest judge only in the live shows since the fourth week.
