Sachithra Yashminda Weerasinghe (Sinhala: සචිත්‍ර යෂ්මින්ද වීරසිංහ; born 27 April 1992), known professionally as Yash Weerasinghe, is a Sri Lankan actor and Sri Lankan voice actor. [1] Over a career spanning nearly a decade, Weerasinghe has established himself as a versatile and dynamic presence in both Sri Lankan television drama and the Sri Lankan Sinhala dubbing industry. [2]  He is recognized for his ability to portray a range of characters, with performances in series such as Wes, [3] Ravana, [4] [5] Bro, [6] [7] [8] and Kiya Denn Adare Tharam. [9]

Expanding his work to film, Yash took on his first major film role in Paraga, directed by Danushka Rathnayaka [10] [11] , which is slated to be released soon. This marks a new stage in his career.

Weerasinghe is also regarded as a voice artist of his generation, [12] having lent his voice to the Sinhala adaptations of numerous international television series, including the Japanese drama Carnation, [13] the Indian serial Diya Aur Baati Hum, and the Korean drama Descendants of the Sun.  His vocal style and delivery have made him a talent in the dubbing field, contributing to the popularity of foreign serials among Sri Lankan audiences. Coming from an artistic family, Yash was exposed to the performing arts from a young age; his aunt is the veteran actress Geetha Kanthi Jayakody. His early start and dedication have led to nominations and recognitions at local award ceremonies. Known for his professionalism and passion for the craft, Yash continues to be active in Sri Lanka's television and voice acting industries.

Early Life and Education

Yash Weerasinghe was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to Jayantha Weerasinghe and Sriyani Muditha Jayakody. [15] He is the middle of three children, with an older brother, Dulanjan Rashminde Weerasinghe, and a younger sister, Upadya Mandira Weerasinghe. Weerasinghe's interest in acting and performing arts is influenced by his maternal relatives, the Jayakody family. His aunt, veteran actress Geetha Kanthi Jayakody, has been a source of inspiration and support.

He began his primary education at Bomiriya Munidasa Kumaratunga Vidyalaya in Kaduwela. Later, he attended Bomiriya Central College , where he completed his advanced level in mathematics stream. During his school years, Weerasinghe developed an interest in acting. Following his secondary education, Weerasinghe obtained a Diploma in Automobile Engineering at [University Name] in year.


Acting Career

Yash Weerasinghe began his acting career with minor roles in television dramas, including 'Para Walalu', [16] an opportunity facilitated by his aunt, Geetha Kanthi Jayakody. A key development occurred when Chandana Irugalbandara [17] introduced Weerasinghe to Danushka Rathnayaka, [18] leading to subsequent collaborations in both dubbing and acting. His first professional acting credit was the role of "Kosala," a reporter, in Danushka Rathnayaka's 2016 drama 'Maunayagaya''. [19] He subsequently appeared in the series Eka Gei Minissu [20] by Jayaprakash Shivagurunathan and then played the role of "Madawa" in the Swarnavahini drama Wes, [3] also directed by Danushka Rathnayaka. Weerasinghe played the main role for the first time in Heily, [21] [22] a TV Derana drama directed by Rathnayaka and produced by Gayan Dinesh Perera.

He went on to portray the character "Myadana" in the historical fantasy drama Ravana, [5] directed by Thushara Tennakone, and gained further recognition for his roles as "Kesahara" in ITN's Bro [7] and "Dewani" in Kiya Denna Adare Tharam. [9] His performance in Anaraga also increased his visibility among Sri Lankan television audiences.

Building on his television work, Weerasinghe took on his first lead role in the film Paraga, directed by Danushka Rathnayaka. The film's release is anticipated. [11]

Dubbing Career

Yash Weerasinghe's dubbing career commenced in 2015 after an opportunity facilitated by Wajira Kumara Vithanage at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation[KK1] . This connection was initially made by his aunt Geetha Kanthi Jayakody, His debut role was "Mathako" in the Sinhala dub of the Japanese drama Carnation , titled Aththatu Na Etha Eya Igilei . During his tenure at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, he was introduced to TV Derana by Mr.Anura Attigala, which enabled him to expand his presence in the dubbing industry. Since then, Yash has contributed to approximately 30 dubbing projects, showcasing his versatility and consistency in voice performance across various genres. [1]
