Yogananth Andiappan is an Indian Yoga guru and author. [1] He is the founder and director of Anahata Yoga, Hong Kong. [2]

Early life and education

Born in India, Andiappan is the son of Dr. Asana Andiappan, an Indian Yoga guru. [3] He started learning Yoga at age two. [3] Andiappan holds two diplomas in Naturopathy and Yogic Science from Government of Tamil Nadu and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, India, respectively. [4] He holds bachelor's degree in Yoga and Naturopathy from Medicina Alternativa, Sri Lanka and Masters in Yoga and Naturopathy from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, India [4] He also holds a Ph.D. in Yoga from Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, India. [4]

Career

Andiappan has been a Yoga and Naturopathy guru for years. [2] He conducted residential and non-residential yoga teacher training courses and has trained thousands of yoga teachers in India, Hong Kong and other countries. [2] He had given yoga lecture demonstrations across different universities in India and yoga studios abroad. [2]

Andiappan serves as the Chief Editor of Asana Journal , an International Yoga Journal founded by his father, Dr. Asana Andiappan in 1999. [5] In 2003, he founded the International Yoga Academy, Hong Kong. [6] In 2009, he founded Anahata Yoga Studio, Hong Kong and became its director. [2] In 2013, he was appoinged an Honorary Professor at Zhejiang Normal University, Zhengzhou, China. [6]

Andiappan has participated and presented yoga therapy workshops conferences and has conducted several Yoga research projects across India, Hong Kong and other countries. [7] He is the author of notable Yoga books such as: Yoga for Students Health, Yoga from the Heart and Andiappan Yoga – Pavanamuktasana. [8] He is a Fellow of Vedic Wellness University, Florida and supporting member of International Association of Yoga Therapists. [4]

Vounteer work

Andiappan engages in vounteer community service by offering tailor-made Yoga Therapy Programs for people with special needs and ailments. [9] In 2013, he founded Andiappan Yoga Community, a non-profit, fully volunteer organization whose mission is to share yoga with those who may not be able to afford yoga classes or those who may have special needs or circumstances. [10]

Kaivalyadhama, officially the Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Centre, is a spiritual, therapeutic, and research centre founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924. It aims to coordinate ancient yogic arts and tradition with modern science. Kuvalayananda founded the journal Yoga Mimamsa at the same time. Kaivalyadhama is in Lonavla, Maharashtra, India, with smaller branches elsewhere in India, France, and the United States.

Sadashiv Prahlad Nimbalkar was an Indian academic, author, Yoga guru and the founder of Yoga Vidya Niketan (YVN), a Mumbai-based Yoga institute, promoting the practice of Yoga. A former physical education instructor and a vice principal of a junior college, Nimbalkar practiced Yoga under renowned teacher, Swami Kuvalayananda, one of the pioneers of Yoga research and the founder of Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute. Yoga Vidya Niketan, the institute Nimbalkar founded, offers various courses such as Diploma in Yogic Science, Teachers Training Courses, Diploma in Yoga Therapy and Diploma in Natural Living and Naturopathy, for students and teachers.

He was the founder of The Yoga Institute, the oldest organized yoga centre in the world, established in 1918. He is often referred as the Father of Modern Yoga Renaissance. Dr. Yogendra was known for studies on therapeutic effects of Yoga. He pioneered yoga education and has written several books on the therapeutic effects of the ancient science, including Yoga Therapy in Asthma, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Mark Singleton is a scholar and practitioner of yoga. Seetharaman Sundaram was a lawyer and pioneer of yoga as exercise, often known as Yogacharya Sundaram, and the first person to publish a handbook of yoga asanas in English, his 1928 Yogic Physical Culture. This was also the first yoga book to be illustrated with photographs. He travelled India with the bodybuilder K. V. Iyer, helping to popularise the new blend of hatha yoga and physical culture.

Srivatsa Ramaswami is a teacher of Vinyasa Krama yoga. He studied for 33 years under the "grandfather of modern yoga", Krishnamacharya. In India he teaches at Kalakshetra. He has run workshops in America at the Esalen Institute, the Himalayan Institute and many other centres. He is the author of four books on yoga.

V. Vasanthi Devi is an Indian educationist and acclaimed academic. She is the president of the Association for India's Development and a trustee of the Madras Institute of Development Studies. Devi served as the vice-chancellor of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University between 1992–1998 and as the chairperson of the State Commission for Women in Tamil Nadu between 2002 and 2005.
