Shenmue is a 1999 action-adventure game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for the Dreamcast. Directed, written and produced by Yu Suzuki, it is the first game in the Shenmue series. The player controls martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he sets out in revenge for the murder of his father in 1980s Yokosuka, Japan, exploring an open world, fighting opponents in brawler battles, and encountering quick time events. The environmental detail was considered unprecedented, with numerous interactive objects, a day-and-night system, variable weather effects, non-player characters with daily schedules, and various minigames.

Masaharu Funaki is a Japanese actor, mixed martial artist and professional wrestler known professionally as Masakatsu Funaki, who has previously wrestled in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi (PWFG), Newborn UWF (UWF), and Wrestle-1 (W-1). He is also the co-founder of Pancrase, one of the first mixed martial arts organizations and non-rehearsed shoot wrestling promotions. Funaki was also Pancrase's biggest star; Josh Barnett described him as the "symbol of Japan", Frank Shamrock labeled Funaki "the golden boy" of Pancrase, and Guy Mezger called Funaki "hands down the smartest and most skilled fighter in Pancrase next to Ken Shamrock".
Minoru Suzuki is a Japanese professional wrestler and mixed martial artist, currently working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). In NJPW, Suzuki has held the IWGP Intercontinental Championship as well as the NEVER Openweight Championship. He is also a former British Heavyweight Champion and co-holder of the Undisputed British Tag Team Championship alongside fellow Suzuki-gun stablemate, Zack Sabre Jr. in Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW). He is also known for his time in Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah), where he is a former one-time GHC Heavyweight Champion and a former one-time GHC Tag Team Champion along with Naomichi Marufuji.
