Zach Appelman (born August 5, 1985) [2] is an American film, television and theatre actor. He is known for portraying Luke Detweiler in the 2013 film Kill Your Darlings , Joe Corbin in the television series Sleepy Hollow , and Alton Finn in the television series Beauty & the Beast .
Appelman was born and raised in Palo Alto, California, and attended high school there. [3] Appelman played many sports in high school, including track and field, wrestling, and competitive martial arts. [3] Appelman earned a black belt in karate in high school. [3] He went on to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a BFA in acting. [4] Appelman then attended the Yale School of Drama for his MFA in acting. [4]
Appelman's first job out of graduate school was playing Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet . [3] [ better source needed ] He would then go on to act in regional theatre in such productions as Hamlet, Timon of Athens , King Lear and A Midsummer Night's Dream . Appelman went on to perform in film and on television. He appeared in 2013's Kill Your Darlings as Luke Detweiler. [4] [ better source needed ] In season 15 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit , Appelman guest starred as Officer Jimmy Hamilton in two episodes. He guest starred as Joe Corbin during the second season of the Sleepy Hollow television series. He had a recurring role during season three of Beauty & the Beast as Alton Finn. [4] [ better source needed ] On August 21, 2015, it was announced that Appelman had been made a series regular on Sleepy Hollow. Philostrate is a fictional character in a number of literary works, including William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (1596). In that play, he is the Master of the Revels at Theseus' court, meaning he is in charge of his lord's entertainments, making recommendations to Theseus, as well as altering the text of some of the plays performed in his court. Shakespeare may have used this character to poke fun at play censorship in London at the time. In early performances of the play, the actor who played this character probably also played the part of Egeus, Hermia's strict father. There is only one scene in act V where both Egeus and Philostrate are present, and in this scene Egeus' character would have taken all of Philostrate's lines as his own.

Sleepy Hollow is an American supernatural drama television series that aired on Fox from September 16, 2013, to March 31, 2017. The series is loosely based on the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", by Washington Irving, with added concepts from "Rip Van Winkle", also by Irving. The first three seasons are set in a fictionalized version of Sleepy Hollow, New York, which portrays the town as much larger than it actually is. For the fourth and final season, the setting moved to Washington, D.C.
