54+23 innings, while also going 6-for-7 in save opportunities. The following season, Putnam doubled his ERA from 2014, finishing with a 4.07 ERA in 49 games. In 48+23 innings, he struck out 64 batters. The next two seasons, he wound up spending most of the time on the disabled list, appearing in only 32 games over the 2016 and 2017 season.

Putnam underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2017, [8] and elected free agency in December 2017. [9] He was non-tendered and became a free agent on December 1.

Boston Red Sox

On December 14, 2018, Putnam signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox. [10] He suffered a hamstring injury in early March 2019, [11] and spent the season on the roster of the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on the injured list. [9] He elected free agency following the season on November 4. [12]

Chicago White Sox (second stint)

On March 2, 2020, Putnam signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. He did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. [13] Putnam was released by the White Sox organization on June 26.

Coaching career

On May 4, 2023, Putnam was hired to serve as a volunteer coach at Ball State University. [14]
