Zakee Wadood (born October 14, 1981) [1] is an American professional basketball player. After graduating from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 2004, Wadood has played in leagues in Finland, Spain and Luxembourg.

Playing career

High school

Wadood attended Lonoke High School in Lonoke, Arkansas between 1996–97 and 1999–2000. [2] During his senior season he was the team captain and averaged 20.6 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. [2] He guided the school to their second consecutive state championship. [2] For his prep career, Wadood was a three-time all-conference, two-time all-region, two-time all-state and one-time All-Arkansas team (which is different from "all-state"). [2] He also played football for Lonoke High School. [2]

College

During Wadood's four-year career playing for the ETSU Buccaneers between 2000–01 and 2003–04, he scored 1,382 career points. [3] He also grabbed 822 rebounds, 246 steals and had 182 blocks. [3] In his sophomore and junior seasons, the Southern Conference (SoCon) media voted him as a second team all-conference performer. [4] In all three of his final seasons, the SoCon coaches chose him to their all-conference team, and in his final two years he was named to the All-SoCon tournament Team. [4] Those two years, Wadood finished second and fourth, respectively, in steals per game in all of NCAA Division I. The Buccaneers also qualified for the NCAA tournament in his junior and senior seasons as well. After Wadood led ETSU to both SoCon regular and conference tournament championships in 2003–04 behind his season averages of 14.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.8 blocks per game, he was chosen as the consensus SoCon Player of the Year. [4] The Associated Press also named him an honorable mention All-American.

Professional

After college, Wadood was selected in the 2004 National Basketball Development League draft by the Arkansas RimRockers, although he never ended up playing with the team. He then began his professional career overseas which included stops in Finland (KTP, FoKoPo, and Componenta), Spain (Ourense), and Luxembourg (Black Star). [5] Wadood also played briefly in the United States' World Basketball Association for the Bristol Crusaders. [5]

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers football program is the intercollegiate American football team for East Tennessee State University (ETSU) located in Johnson City, Tennessee. The team was dormant from the end of the 2003 season until being reinstated for the 2015 season. They played all of their 2015 home games and all but one of their 2016 home games at Kermit Tipton Stadium before the opening of the new William B. Greene Jr. Stadium for the 2017 season. The remaining 2016 home game, against Western Carolina on September 17, was played at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway, which was already set up for football due to a game the prior week between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Before ETSU dropped football, it competed in NCAA Division I as a Southern Conference (SoCon) football program. The revived program played as an independent in 2015 before returning to the SoCon in 2016.

Troy Lee Mikell is an American former basketball player. He was a draft pick in the 1983 NBA draft by the New York Knicks after a four-year collegiate career at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Mikell, at 6'1" and 180 pounds, played forward in high school but shooting guard in college.

Dimeco Childress is an American former basketball player. He is known for his collegiate career at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) between 1998–99 and 2001–02. During his four years as a Buccaneer he scored 1,287 points and twice led the team in scoring. As a senior in 2001–02 he led the team 17.5 points per game and 75 total assists. On February 16, 2002 Childress scored a career-high 42 points, good enough for the third-highest single game output in ETSU history. That season, the Buccaneers went 11–5 in Southern Conference (SoCon) play, tying them for first place in the North Division. The SoCon coaches selected Childress as their player of the year; due to the conference's media choosing VMI's Jason Conley as their player of the year, the two players shared the award in 2001–02.

Mike Smith is an American former professional basketball player who played mostly in the Belgian League. He was an All-American college player at the East Tennessee State University (ETSU).

Justin Tubbs is an American professional basketball player who is currently playing for Beirut Club of the Lebanese Basketball League. He was selected by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers as the 115th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Development League Draft. Tubbs played at the collegiate level with Alabama and East Tennessee State, known as one of the best pure athletes in the Atlantic Sun Conference following his transfer. He also represented Hewitt-Trussville High School through his early years. Following the 2011 NBA draft, Tubbs signed with MIA Academy.

The 2015–16 East Tennessee State Buccaneers women's basketball team represented East Tennessee State University (ETSU) during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The "Bucs", led by third year head coach Brittney Ezell, played their home games at the Freedom Hall Civic Center as members of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They finished the season 16–14, 8–6 in SoCon play to finish in fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the SoCon women's tournament to Furman.

Desonta Bradford is an American basketball player. He played college basketball for East Tennessee State. He was named the 2017–18 Southern Conference Player of the Year by the league's coaches.

The 2018 East Tennessee State Buccaneers football team represented East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in the 2018 NCAA Division I FCS football season and were in the third year of their second stint as football members of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They were led by first-year head coach Randy Sanders and played their home games at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium. They finished the season 8–4, 6–2 in SoCon play to win a share of the SoCon championship. They received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs, where they lost to Jacksonville State in the first round.

The 1989–90 East Tennessee State Buccaneers basketball team represented East Tennessee State University during the 1989-90 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by head coach Les Robinson. The Bucs finished the season 27–7 and 12–2 in Southern Conference play to finish in first place after the regular season. They won the Southern Conference tournament championship in Asheville to receive the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament as the No. 13 seed in the Southeast region. They lost to No. 4 seed, and eventual Final Four participant, Georgia Tech, 99–83 in the first round.

Moses Josiah Moody is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The 2021–22 East Tennessee State Buccaneers men's basketball team represented East Tennessee State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Buccaneers, led by first-year head coach Desmond Oliver, played their home games at the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, as members of the Southern Conference. They finished the season 15–17, 7–11 in SoCon play to finish in eighth place. They lost to The Citadel in the first round of the SoCon tournament.
