Zdeněk Nytra (born 6 October 1961) is a Czech politician. He has been Senator from Ostrava since 2016.
Nytra studied at Technical University of Ostrava. He became a professional fireman in 1984. He started as a commander of Fireman's corp for protection of trains in Ostrava. He joined Firemen's security corps of Ostrava in 1991. In 2001 he became Chairman of Firemen's security corps of Moravian-Silesian Region. [1]
He ran for Proskovice municipal assembly in 2002 election as a candidate of the Civic Democratic Party. He wasn't elected but in 2006 he became a member of MoravskáOstrava a Přívoz assembly. He was reelected in 2010 and 2014 election.
He decided to run for Senate in 2016 election. He officially ran as an independent but was supported by Civic Democratic Party,TOP 09 and Freeholder Party of the Czech Republic. [2] He advanced to the second round and narrowly defeated Liana Janáčková. [3]
During 2018 presidential election,Nytra endorsed Mirek Topolánek. [4]

The Civic Democratic Party is a conservative and economic liberal political party in the Czech Republic. The party sits between centre-right and right-wing on the political spectrum,and holds 34 seats in the Chamber of Deputies,and is the second strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. It is the only political party in the Czech Republic that has maintained an uninterrupted representation in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Civic Democratic Party (ODS) leadership election of 2014 was a result of party's electoral defeat in 2013 legislative election. Candidates include former Minister of Education and Chairman of Masaryk University Petr Fiala,former Prime Minister candidate Miroslava Němcováand MEP Edvard Kožušník. Fiala was nominated by 12 regional organisations and thus was considered a front-runner. Fiala was also endorsed by acting leader of ODS Martin Kuba. Edvard Kožušník was endorsed by Liberec Region organisation of ODS. Over 500 delegates voted.

Shadow Minister of Education Václav Klaus Jr. was widely expected to run against Fiala. He was considered to be one of the most visible politician of the party. In December 2016,Czech bookmaker company Fortuna wrote a course for Klaus Jr. to replace Fiala on 20:1. Klaus Jr.. decided to not run against Fiala. Approximately 540 delegates were allowed to vote. Fiala received 451 votes and was elected for another term.

ANO 2011 received the highest number of votes but Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) won the same number of seats in the City's assembly. Civic Democratic Party ruled in Plzeňmore than 20 years but was expected to lose its positions and receive only 10% of votes. In an electoral upset,ODS received more than 17%. Leader of local Civic Democrats Martin Baxa said that he believes that ODS was the actual victor of the election. Voter turnout was 33.73%.

The Civic Democratic Party has won the election ahead of the Czech Social Democratic Party. Both parties received 14 seats in 47-seat assembly and formed grand coalition. Martin Baxa became the new Mayor. The incumbent Mayor Pavel Rödl was a former member of ODS. He left the party prior election and contested as a leader of Citizens.cz.

After the election ANO 2011 formed coalition with Czech Pirate Party and Mayors and Independents with Roman Zarzyckýas the new Mayor. New coalition was to be supported by 2 SPD members of the assembly but after disagreement of Piráti and STAN leadership they were replaced by PRO Plzeň.
