Girish Karnad was an Indian actor, film director, Kannada writer, playwright and a Jnanpith awardee, who predominantly worked in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Marathi films. His rise as a playwright in the 1960s marked the coming of age of modern Indian playwriting in Kannada, just as Badal Sarkar did in Bengali, Vijay Tendulkar in Marathi, and Mohan Rakesh in Hindi. He was a recipient of the 1998 Jnanpith Award, the highest literary honour conferred in India.
Assamese cinema, is an Indian film industry of Assamese-language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In beginning the industry were called Jollywood, named for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

It is the first feature film of the director and also the first Assamese film produced by National Film Development Corporation of India. Ahir Bhairav is a 2007 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Siva Prasad Thakur and produced by Dr Ronen Sarma, under the banner of Rondeep Productions (UK) Ltd. This is the first ever Assamese movie that was entirely shot in the UK and was the Assamese's second film to be shot outside India after Hiya Diya Niya (2000). It has been chosen by the British Film Institute, London, to be preserved in its archive.

It was adapted from the Assamese short story Bahiroloi Jowa Baat by Apurba Sarma. Dwaar stars Kapil Bora, Zerifa Wahid and Mahika Sharma in the lead roles. The literal translation of the title means Door.
