Kopil Bora (born 30 March 1977) is an Assamese actor, anchor and All India Radio voice artist. He debuted in Bidyut Chakravarty's 2002 Assamese film Gun Gun Gane Gane and known for his performance in Mon (2002), Ahir Bhairav (2008), Jetuka Pator Dore (2011) and Dwaar (2013).
Kopil Bora [1] attended high school at Don Bosco High School, Guwahati, and later attended college at Cotton College, Guwahati. He currently still resides in Guwahati. [2]
Kopil Bora has appeared in numerous Assamese films. He debut film was Gun Gun Gane Gane (2002), directed by Bidyut Chakravarty. Additionally, his movie Mon was released in later that year. His other films include Bidhata (2003), Kadambari (2008), Ahir Bhairav (2008), Jeevan Baator Logori (2009), Jetuka Pator Dore (2011), Dwaar (2013) and Raag: The Rhythm of Love (2014). In the 2013 film Dwaar, [3] he played the mentally ill character Dwijen Bhattacharya and his performance appreciated by critics. [4]
Kopil Bora has acted in Narakor Gopan Kakhyat with Zerifa Wahid, staged in Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. It was an adaptation of the French play "In Camera" by Jean-Paul Sartre. [5] In another play with Zerifa Wahid, Pancharatna, staged in Rabindra Bhawan, he played a gay boy troubled by his sexuality. He was also the associate director of the play called Agnibristi where he played the lead role, under Zerifa Wahid's production, staged in Rabindra Bhawan. It was an adaptation of Girish Karnad's play The Fire and the Rain.
In television, he acted in an eight-episode Hindi mini-series titled Manushi (with seven stories by Sahitya Akademi award winner Sneha Devi), directed by Sanjib Hazarika for Doordarshan. His other television credit includes Niyoror Phool on News Live. He also hosted a spelling contest for children on Rang.
Kopil Bora debuted in Assam's roaming theatre with Ashirbad Theatre. He also acted in Rajmahal Theatre. The list of plays includes "Surongor Xekhot", a drama which was aired in the All India Radio in the 1980s, "Surjyo" and "Bhai". [6]
Kopil Bora has compered for Axom Idol - a Musical Talent search program hosted in NE TV, Sur-Taal-Loy, another musical talent program anchored by Kopil Bora in association with Barsha Rani Bishaya and Surajit Malakar Guwahati - and various New year's eve celebrations hosted in DD NE and participated in the cultural extravaganza in the closing function of the 33rd National games, held at Guwahati. Kopil Bora gave the background narration for the documentary Friends of Kaziranga (2010), which honors the Kaziranga National Park's forest guards. [7]
Bora inaugurated a 'clothes bank' at an event held at Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok, Guwahati, which redistributes discarded clothes to people in need, launched by a NGO, Xavier's Foundation, with the support of North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi), which is a financial and development institution formed under the DoNER ministry. Bhabendra Nath Saikia was a novelist, short-story writer, editor and film director from Assam, India. Saikia received his doctorate in physics from the University of London. He began his career as a reader in the Department of Physics, University of Guwahati. He later played an important role in the publication of college level textbooks in the Assamese language during his tenure as the Secretary of the Co-ordination Committee for production of textbooks in regional languages.
Bishnu Prasad Rabha (1909–1969) was an Indian cultural figure from Assam, known for his contributions in the fields of music, dance, painting, literature as well as political activism. As an advocate of people's cultural movement, he drew heavily from different genres of classical and folk cultural traditions. Considered a doyen of the Culture of Assam, the Assamese people affectionately call him Kalaguru. He is also called by Marxists as Sainik Silpi for his active participation in the armed struggle, led by the Revolutionary Communist Party of India (RCPI).
Zerifa Wahid is an Indian actress known for her works in Assamese films. Her prominent features include Baandhon, which won the 60th National Film Awards for Best Feature Film in Assamese directed by Jahnu Baruah. and the best film in the Indian Films Competition held at the Bengaluru International Film Festival for the year 2012.
Jatin Bora is an Indian actor and director who has appeared in Assamese language films since 1989. He is also an actor and director in some mobile theatre (Bhramyaman) groups of Assam, including Aabahan, Hengool, Ashirbaad, Bhagyadevi, Kohinoor, Itihas and Surjya.
Jeevan Baator Logori is a 2009 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Timothy Das Hanche under the banner Hills Motion Pictures Association of Diphu. The film is set in the rural and urban areas of Assam and shot at Cinemascope on the 35mm format.
Ahir Bhairav is a 2007 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Siva Prasad Thakur and produced by Dr Ronen Sarma, under the banner of Rondeep Productions (UK) Ltd. This is the first ever Assamese movie that was entirely shot in the UK and was the Assamese's second film to be shot outside India after Hiya Diya Niya (2000). It has been chosen by the British Film Institute, London, to be preserved in its archive.
Jetuka Pator Dore is a 2011 Indian Assamese drama film based on the novel of the same name by Syed Abdul Malik. The film stars Aimee Baruah and Raag Oinitom, was directed by Jadumoni Dutta and produced by Noorul Sultan for Maina Industrial Co-Operative Society Ltd. The storyline is set to the backdrop of an interior village of Assam, India in the 1970s, which has never seen progress and prosperity, and tells the story of Radha, a young woman of lower caste fighting against corruption and for the rights of her community.
Dwaar is a 2013 Indian Assamese drama film directed by Bidyut Chakravarty, with his own screenplay, and produced by Sanjive Narain and Bidyut Chakravarty himself. It was adapted from the Assamese short story Bahiroloi Jowa Baat by Apurba Sarma. Dwaar stars Kapil Bora, Zerifa Wahid and Mahika Sharma in the lead roles. The literal translation of the title means Door.
Baandhon is a 2012 Assamese language drama film, starring Bishnu Kharghoria and Bina Patangia in the lead roles. The film was directed by Jahnu Barua and produced by Assam State Film Corporation Limited. The film was initially released on 26 October 2012 in the state of Assam and later on 5 July 2013 in selected PVR theaters across rest of India.
Ekhon Nedekha Nodir Xhipare is a 2012 Assamese language socio-political thriller film, with some dialogue in Hindi, starring Sanjay Suri and Bidita Bag in the lead roles. It was directed by Bidyut Kotoky and produced by National Film Development Corporation of India. The film was simultaneously made in Hindi as As the river flows.
Jilmil Jonak is a 2014 Indian Assamese language drama film starring Jatin Bora and Nishita Goswami in the lead roles. The film was directed by Sibanan Boruah and produced under the banner of Daijee Cine Productions by Daijee Gogoi and written by Horen Chandra Rajkhowa, released on 30 May 2014.
Raag is a 2014 Indian Assamese-language drama film, starring Adil Hussain and Zerifa Wahid in the lead roles. The film was directed by Rajni Basumatary and produced by Assam State Film Corporation Limited in association with Manna Films. The film was initially released on 7 February 2014 in the state of Assam and later on 7 March 2014 in selected theaters across rest of India via PVR Director's Rare.
The Prag Cine Awards 2014 ceremony, presented by the Prag Network, honored the actors, technical achievements, and films censored in 2013 from Assam and took place on 22 March 2014, at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India. Actors duos Kopil Bora and Zerifa Wahid hosted the show. Veteran litterateur Arun Sharma, Kannada film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and Bollywood film actress Mahima Chaudhary inaugurated the event.
The Prag Cine Awards 2013 ceremony, presented by the Prag Network, honored the actors, technical achievements, and films censored in 2012 from Assam and took place on 14 April 2013, at the GMCH Auditorium in Guwahati, India. Bollywood director Kalpana Lajmi, actors Pooja Bhatt, Adil Hussain were present at the event while veteran Assamese actor Pranjal Saikia and Zerifa Wahid hosted the show.
Kothanodi is an Indian Assamese language feature film written and directed by Bhaskar Hazarika and stars Seema Biswas, Adil Hussain, Zerifa Wahid, Urmila Mahanta, Kopil Bora and Asha Bordoloi. The story of the film is based on traditional indigenous folktales from Assam, India.
Rajni Basumatary is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and actor from Assam, India. She debuted as a director in 2014 with the Assamese language drama film Raag. The 2019 Boro language film, Jwlwi: The Seed was written, directed and produced by her. It won several awards including the Assam State Film awards for Best Actor (Female) and Best Film in Other Language category, the Jury’s Special Award at Bengaluru International Film Festival 2020, the Jury’s Special Mention at Guwahati International Film Festival 2019, Prag Cine Awards for Best Film in other than Assamese language and Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards for Best Screenplay. Her third directorial film Gorai Phakhri premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2023. It won Best Film at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival under the Indian Language Films category. She was awarded Best Director at the 6th Sailadhar Baruah Awards. The film won the Gautama Buddha Award for Best Narrative Feature Film at the Nepal International Film Festival. She was awarded the Director's Vision Award at the 21st Indian Film Festival Stuttgart.
Nishita Goswami is an Indian actress who works in Assamese language films. Her notable Assamess Movies are Rong, Ratnakar, Hold My Hand, Mon, etc. She has also acted in a number of stage dramas.
Filmfare Awards East is the Bengali segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by The Times Group to honour the artistic and cinematic excellence in Bengali. The first installment of the awards were held for Bengali, Assamese and Odia films in a ceremony on 29 March 2014.
Chalachitram National Film Festival (CNFF) is a festival conducted in Guwahati, Assam. The festival director is Utpal Datta, a National Film Award-winning film critic and film maker.
