Zoochosis is an upcoming indie horror video game developed and published by Clapperheads. It was announced on January 16, 2024 [2] [3] with a release date set for September 23, 2024. [4] The game has drawn attention for its premise, focusing on a player's role as a zookeeper tasked with creating vaccines and curing mutated animals. [5]

Gameplay

In Zoochosis, players assume the role of Paul the zookeeper experiencing their first night shift, during which they discover that the zoo's animals have started to mutate, such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, moose, hippopotamuses, gorillas, penguins and kangaroos. The gameplay revolves around making vaccines, curing the mutated animals, and unraveling the mystery behind the zoo's sudden epidemic. [6] [7]

The developers have indicated that the game will feature several possible endings, which will vary depending on the player's decisions regarding which animals to rescue and which to avoid. [8]

Additionally, Zoochosis is played from the perspective of a bodycam, adding a layer of immersion to the experience. [9]

Pre-release

The first trailer for Zoochosis received attention for its unique horror setting and concept. Edwin Evans-Thirwell of Rock Paper Shotgun praised the game as an "open homage to The Thing ". [10] PCGamesN likened it to " Resident Evil meets Planet Zoo ", [11] while Dread Central described the game as "The Thing meets a zoo". [12]

Resident Evil 3 is a 2020 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is a remake of the 1999 game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Players control former elite agent Jill Valentine and mercenary Carlos Oliveira as they attempt to find a vaccine and escape from a city during a zombie outbreak. <i>Zoo Tycoon</i> Video game series

Zoo Tycoon is a series of business simulation video games. The worlds focus around building and running successful zoo scenarios. The series was initially developed by Blue Fang Games and published by Microsoft Studios who later in 2001–2008 went on to create two stand-alone video games and seven expansion packs for PC and Macintosh platforms. In 2013, Microsoft Studios released a new Zoo Tycoon game, developed by Frontier Developments for Xbox One and Xbox 360. An enhanced version of the Xbox game, Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection, was released for Windows 10 and the Xbox One on October 31, 2017. The year's highest-grossing games included Fortnite, Honor of Kings/Arena of Valor, Dungeon Fighter Online, League of Legends, and Pokémon Go.

<i>Resident Evil: Vendetta</i> 2017 Japanese film

Resident Evil: Vendetta, known as Biohazard: Vendetta in Japan, is a 2017 English-language Japanese adult animated biopunk action horror film set in the same universe as the Resident Evil video games. Produced by Marza Animation Planet and Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the film features the characters Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers. Takashi Shimizu also served as executive producer, and Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi supervised the film. It is the third CG film, preceded by Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) and Resident Evil: Damnation (2012), and also the third film installment with Leon Kennedy as a main character. In the video game industry, 2022 saw the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry, slowing hardware sales for most of the year as well as development delays for major titles. The industry continued its trend of acquisitions and mergers, highlighted by Microsoft announcing its plan to acquire Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion. The industry as a whole continued to deal with issues such as workplace harassment and discrimination, alongside crunch periods, leading to at least the quality assurance staff at three separate studios to vote to unionize.

In the video game industry, 2023 saw significant changes within larger publishers and developers. Microsoft, after having satisfied worldwide regulatory bodies, completed its US$69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, making them the third largest game publisher in the world. Embracer Group, which had been in an acquisition spree over the previous few years, had an estimated $2 billion deal fall through, causing many of the studios under Embracer to either lay off staff or close entirely. Similar layoffs were seen at Unity, Amazon, ByteDance, Epic Games, Bungie, and Ubisoft, leading to over 9,000 jobs lost in the industry in 2023 and part of a larger trend of layoffs at technology companies in 2023.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 is an upcoming interactive drama and survival horror video game developed and published by Supermassive Games. It is the first game of the second season, and the fifth game overall in The Dark Pictures Anthology. Continuing the series' premise, the game features a cast of five playable protagonists and a multilinear narrative influenced by player choices. Its decision-making scenes can significantly alter the trajectory of the plot and change the relationships between the main characters; some can lead to the permanent death of the protagonists. In Directive 8020, a colony ship called Cassiopeia crash lands on Tau Ceti f, a planet that is 12 light-years from Earth. Lashana Lynch, who plays astronaut and pilot of the Cassiopeia, Brianna Young, is being marketed as the game's leading actress. Directive 8020 will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
