The Zosimli Naa is a royal title in Ghana. It directly translates as Chief of Zosimli. The title, Naa translates as King or Chief while Zosimli means: Cooperation, Alliance, Accord, Collaboration and Friendships. The Tamale-Louisville sister city relationship is administered under the office of a Zosimli Naa. The Zosimli Palace is located in Lamashegu, Tamale. The relationship between The Kingdom of Dagbon and Europe is also administered, separately, under the office of a Zo-simli Naa.

History

The first Zosimli was Her Royal Highness, Naa Dr. Susan J Herlin. [1] [2] In 2022, a new Zosimli Naa, HRH Naa Ife Bell Tipaɣya was enskinned at a colorful ceremony. [3]

Roles of Zosimli Naa

The Office of Zosimli Naa is an institution dedicated to promoting and fostering development initiatives within the chieftaincy. [4] [5] With a steadfast commitment to progress, this esteemed office operates on the foundation of four key pillars: Community and Culture, Education and Leadership, Business and Innovation, and Health and Wellbeing. [6]

Dakpema Zosimli

In 2021, The Tamale Dakpema, HRH Fuseini Bawa, enskinned Kennedy S Johnson as Dakpema Zosimli Naa. [7] The Dakpema Zosimli acts within the principality (Dakpamli) of the Dakpema. The role of the Dakpema is the governance of markets within Tamale. [8]

The Dagbamba or Dagomba are an ethnic group of Ghana, and Togo. They number more than 3.1 million people. The term Dagbamba is originally extended to refer to other related peoples who were unified by Naa Gbewaa including the Mamprusi and Nanumba. The Dagomba country is called Dagbon and they speak Dagbanli language. Dagbanli is the most spoken language of northern Ghana and second most widely spoken local language of Ghana. Dagbanli belongs to the Mabia (Mole-Dagbani) subgroup of the Gur languages, a large group of related languages in West Africa. The Dagomba practises both patrilineal and matrilineal systems of inheritance.

Naa Gbewaa is the founder of the Kingdom of Dagbon, in what is now northern Ghana. His sons and daughters are credited with founding several states⁣, including the Mossi kingdoms of Burkina Faso. He established a stable and prosperous kingdom. Naa Gbewaa's shrine is located at Pusiga, 90 km east of Bolgatanga. His descendants continue to pay respects at the shrine.

Bimbilla is the capital town of Nanumba North District, a district in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is located in the East of the region, and is near the Oti River. The location is situated within the range of 8.5° north to 9.25° north latitude, and between 0.57° east to 0.5° east longitude. It borders five municipalities: Yendi Municipal to the north, Mion Municipal to the northwest, East Gonja Municipal to the west and southwest, Nanumba South Municipal to the south and east, and Zabzugu Municipal to the north-northeast.

World Damba Festival is an enactment of the Damba festival of Northern Ghana by Ghanaians living in other parts of the world. World Damba festival was first celebrated in 1999 in Louisville, Kentucky. London hosted the event in 2012. Other cities that have hosted the festival include Boston in Massachusetts, Amsterdam, and Brussels.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kingdom of Dagbon</span> Traditional Empire of Dagbon and Kingdom of the Dagomba people in Ghana

The Kingdom of Dagbon (Dagbaŋ) is the oldest and one of the most organised traditional kingdoms in Ghana founded by the Dagomba people (Dagbamba) in the 15th century. During its rise, it comprised, at various points, the Northern, Upper West, Upper East, Savannah Region and North East regions of present-day Ghana. It also covered portions of Burkina Faso, North East Ivory Coast and North West Togo. Since Ghana's independence in 1957, the Kingdom just like all of Ghana's kingdoms and ethnic states has assumed a traditional, customary role.

Kakpagyili is a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region of Ghana. Kakpagyili is a community in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and part of the Tamale South Constituency with Hon. Haruna Iddrisu as the Member of Parliament (MP). The Local Chief of Kakpagyili Community is called Gumanaa. It shares boundaries with Banvum, Bilpiela, Zujuŋ and Tuutiŋli.

Daniel McKorley (born 17th June, 1971) is a Ghanaian founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies. McKorley was awarded the title of Entrepreneur of the Year (2016) at the Ghana Aviation Awards.

Adam Amandi (1918–2006) was an Educationist, Farmer, Environmentalist and Ghanaian politician. He was a three-time Member of Parliament, and a senior member of the Busia Administration. He was a true blue, blue blooded founding member of the Northern People's Party, its various iterations—-United Party, Progress Party, Popular Front Party, and the New Patriotic Party.

Bukali II, known as Gariba II, is the current Yaa Naa, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Dagbon in Ghana.

HRH Dr. Susan J. Herlin was an academic, a royalty, and a humanitarian who dedicated herself to the promotion of development of Ghana. She was the first Zosimli Naa of the Kingdom of Dagbon. She was born on May 26, 1939, at Port Arthur, Texas, to Robert and Jean Herlin. She died on May 21, 2014, at Louisville, Kentucky. Herlin was inducted into the hall of fame of The University of Louisville's Pan-African Studies Department.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ife Bell Tipaɣya</span>

HRH Ife Bell Tipaɣya is the current Zosimli Naa of the Kingdom of Dagbon. She was enskinned on Monday, Jul 5, 2021. She succeeds HRH Dr. Susan J. Herlin, who held the position from 1995 to 2014. She is an expert in leadership and a thought leader.

The Tamale Dakpema is a tindana responsible for markets and commercial activities in Tamale, located in the Northern Region of Ghana. The Current Dakpema of Tamale is Dakpema Bawa Fuseini, who ascended the Dakpamli in 2019. He succeeded Dakpema Alhassan Dawuni.

Tamale Islamic Science Senior High School(Tissec) is a public, co-educational senior high school located in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana. It was established in 1997 as a STEM school by the Islamic Development Bank. Later, it was absorbed into the Ghanaian public school system. The school was used as a temporary lecture space for students of the University for Development Studies.
