The 2015 North Miami mayoral election happened on May 12, 2015 in North Miami, Florida. Before the election, Jean Rodrigue Marcellus was disqualified as his check to pay the qualifying fee for the race was returned due to insufficient funds. [2] This meant that incumbent mayor Smith Joseph was unopposed, and as such, no voting occurred.

Democrat Nikki Fried narrowly defeated Republican Matt Caldwell. Fried became the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida, as U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, who had held Florida's Class I U.S. Senate seat since 2000, lost reelection. The 2014 North Miami mayoral special election took place on November 4, 2014, to elect the mayor of North Miami, Florida. The election was officially nonpartisan. The election was held after the arrest of Mayor Lucie Tonderou earlier in 2014. Smith Joseph was elected after a runoff election between him and former mayor Kevin Burns. The first round was held on August 26, 2014.

Vi Lyles defeated Kenny Smith in the general election, and became the 59th mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina.
