The 2017 TCR Scandinavia Touring Car Championship was the seventh Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season. This season will see the introduction of the TCR regulations. The season started at Ring Knutstorp on 7 May and ended at Mantorp Park on 17 September, after eight rounds.
With the introduction of the new technical regulations many of the teams competing in the previous season did not return. Polestar Cyan Racing left the STCC for the support Swedish GT series. [25] Flash Engineering also left the championship. [26]
On 18 October 2016, a preliminary calendar was announced, with one round still to be announced. The championship will host six rounds in Sweden and one round in Finland. [27]

Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) was a touring car racing series based in Sweden, but also with rounds in Norway. They began operating in 1996, heavily influenced by the British Touring Car Championship and the success of BTCC racing on Swedish television. There are also a number of support classes that compete with their races alongside STCC; Radical, the Camaro Cup, Superkart, Pro Superbike, the JTCC and the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. The final STCC season was in 2010, as the series merged with the Danish Touringcar Championship to form the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.
Tommy Sten Kristoffersson, actually Tommy Sten Kristoffersen, is a Swedish race car driver whose father hails from Denmark. In the beginning of his career he competed in rallycross for Audi before starting a team in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) in 1998 running Audi A4 Quattros with himself as one of the drivers. Tommy Kristoffersson has competed for his team from 1998 to 2008, finishing 4th overall in 1998 and 2001. He retired from the STCC before the start of the 2009 season, as Kristoffersson Motorsport was struggling in the championship three years after Audi pulled out from backing his team.
Fredrik Ekblom is a Swedish race car driver from Kumla. After an early career in single-seaters he switched to touring car racing where he won multiple titles in his native Swedish Touring Car Championship and later in the TTA – Racing Elite League.
The 2012 TTA – Racing Elite League season was the only season of the new Racing Elite League run by the Touring Car Team Association. The championship was formed as a breakaway from the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. Following the season, the two series announced their reunification, under the STCC name but with the TTA technical regulations. Fredrik Ekblom won the championship, driving for Volvo Polestar Racing.
Johan David Kristoffersson is a Swedish racecar driver. He is a six time World Rallycross Champion having won the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. In 2018 he won a record breaking 11 out of 12 events in the championship. He is the son of former racing driver and Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) team owner Tommy Kristoffersson. He also won the Superstars Series championship in 2012, the same year in which he claimed the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia titles.
The 2013 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship was the third Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season. The season started at Ring Knutstorp on 4 May and ends on 21 September at Mantorp Park. It is the first year of TTA – Racing Elite League silhouette regulations in the series following the merge of the STCC and TTA at the end of the 2012 seasons. Fredrik Ekblom goes into the championship as reigning champion.

The season started at Ring Knutstorp on 10 May and ended on 20 September at Mantorp Park, after six double-header rounds. It was the second year of TTA – Racing Elite League silhouette regulations in the series following the merge of the STCC and TTA at the end of the 2012 season. Thed Björk entered the season as the series' defending champion.
The 2015 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship was the fifth Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season. The season started at the new circuit in Skövde Airport on 8 May and ended on 26 September at Ring Knutstorp, after seven rounds. It was the third year of TTA – Racing Elite League silhouette regulations in the series following the merge of the STCC and TTA at the end of the 2012 season. Thed Björk entered the season as the defending drivers' champion and successfully defended his title. Volvo Polestar Racing will be the defending teams' champion. Both Björk and Volvo Polestar Racing retained their titles after the season.

It currently competes in the FIA World Rallycross Championship and Swedish Touring Car Championship, with Tommy's son Johan Kristoffersson as one of the drivers. The team has raced under several sponsored names, such as Team Biogas.se, Volkswagen Dealer Team KMS, Volkswagen Team Sweden, Volkswagen RX Sweden and PSRX Volkswagen Sweden.

The 2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup was the inaugural season of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR). It took over from the World Touring Car Championship and adopted the TCR technical regulations. It was also the 14th overall season of the series that dates from the 2005 World Touring Car Championship. The change of name and new rules follow the declining interest in the TC1 regulations used by the World Touring Car Championship between 2014 and 2017 and the growing interest among manufacturers in the TCR touring car category.

The 2019 World Touring Car Cup was the second season of the World Touring Car Cup and 15th overall of World Touring Cars promoted by Discovery Sports Events, which dates back to the 2005 World Touring Car Championship.
The 2020 STCC TCR Scandinavia Touring Car Championship was the tenth overall season of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and the fourth under the internationally recognised TCR formula. It was also the third time the championship has run under the STCC TCR Scandinavia Touring Car Championship banner. Originally due to start on 15 May at Ring Knutstorp and end on 4 October at Mantorp Park, the season start was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A revised calendar was due to be published sometime after Easter.
The 2020 TCR Denmark Touring Car Series is the inaugural season of the TCR Denmark Touring Car Series. The season started on the 18/19 April at Jyllandsringen and will end on the 10/11 October at Padborg Park.
The 2021 World Touring Car Cup was the fourth season of the World Touring Car Cup and 17th overall of the series, which dates back to the 2005 World Touring Car Championship. The season began on 5 June at the Nürburgring and ended on 28 November in Sochi.
