Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters

Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, which is the association of Welsh translators and interpreters, is a professional body representing English/Welsh translators and interpreters in Wales. The association has 400 members (as at 1 October 2021) most of whom are translators; less than a quarter are interpreters. The Association is a member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT). [1]

History

The Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters was established in 1976 [2] to provide a forum for the discussion of issues relating to Welsh/English translation and interpreting. Its goal is to ensure professional translation standards are upheld in the field of Welsh/English translation and interpreting. The association also advises the Welsh Language Commissioner on translation issues.

Andrew John Dixon is a Welsh politician and former member of Plaid Cymru. He stood in election for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency in the 2007 National Assembly for Wales election.

The Japan Association of Translators (JAT) is the largest professional association of practicing translators and interpreters in Japan, with approximately 800 members. The association was founded in 1985.

The Wales national netball team represents Wales in international netball competition.

Sport in Cardiff

Sport in Cardiff is dictated by, amongst other things, its position as the capital city of Wales, meaning that national home sporting fixtures are nearly always played in the city. All of Wales' multi-sports agencies and many of the country's sports governing bodies have their headquarters in Cardiff and the city's many top-quality venues have attracted world-famous sport events, sometimes unrelated to Cardiff or to Wales.

International Translation Day

International Translation Day is an international day recognising translation professionals. It is on 30 September, which is the day of the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators.

The Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association (WSTAA) is the governing body for game angling in Wales. It has about one hundred member clubs. Founded as the Welsh Fly Fishing Association in 1952, the WSTAA organises national and international angling competitions, including two major World Fly Fishing Championships and the 2002 Commonwealth championship in Wales—the WSTAA Wales team won gold at the 2009 IFFA River International competition. The WSTAA also highlights issues that affect Welsh anglers including: game fishing conservation; threats to water quality from acid rain; water pollution; barrages; poaching; stocking; and 'Objective One' funding.

Welsh Netball Association

Wales Netball was founded 1945 and is the national governing body for netball in Wales. Wales Netball is responsible for national championships, Wales national netball team selection, international matches, the training and development of players, coaches and umpires and for the Sport Wales National Centre Netball Academy, Cardiff.

The Welsh Orienteering Association (WOA) is the national governing body for the sport of orienteering in Wales, and is a constituent association of the British Orienteering Federation. The WOA is responsible for encouraging, developing and controlling the sport of orienteering throughout Wales, for running the Welsh League and events, including the Welsh Championships, the Welsh Short Championships and the Welsh Orienteering festival—Croeso —held every four years. The Welsh Orienteering Association has nine affiliated clubs.

The Welsh Pétanque Association (WPA) is the governing body for the sport of pétanque in Wales. The WPA is affiliated to the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP) and the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP). It aims to promote the sport's development for all people in Wales. The Welsh Pétanque Association organises competition at national and international level, including League and National Competitions and the Welsh Cup for Clubs—the winning club qualifying for the EuroCup —and is responsible for the selection of the Wales national squads, who compete in international events including the Celtic Challenge, European Championships and World Championships.

The Table Tennis Association of Wales (TTAW) is the national governing body of table tennis in Wales. It is affiliated to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the European Table Tennis Union, and was a founding member of both organisations—in 1926 and 1956 respectively.

The Tenpin Bowling Association of Wales (TBAW) is the national governing body for tenpin bowling in Wales. It is a member of the Fédération Internationale des Quilleurs and the European Tenpin Bowling Federation – the "European Zone" of the World Tenpin Bowling Association.

International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters

The International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) is an international professional association of translators and interpreters based in Argentina.

Professional Association of Translators and Interpreters of Catalonia

The Associació Professional de Traductors i Intèrprets de Catalunya (APTIC) is an independent, non-profit association. It was officially established on January 1, 2009, and is open to all professionals from the sector who are academically trained or professionally active. APTIC is a member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) and the Red Vértice. With over 650 members, APTIC has over twenty years’ experience representing and defending translators and interpreters. It also organizes training and promotional activities for the sector’s professionals.

The Wales Interpretation and Translation Service (WITS) is a not-for-profit quango providing 24-hour linguistic services to public authorities in Wales, including councils, police forces, health and social services, but not courts.
