Eppo Egbert Willem Bruins (born 19 September 1969) is a Dutch politician and physicist who served as a member of the House of Representatives for the Christian Union (CU) from 2015 to 2021.
Prior to his service in Parliament, Bruins was director of the Technologiestichting STW from 2007 until 2015. Since 2022, he has chaired the Adviesraad voor wetenschap, technologie en innovatie (AWTI).
Bruins was born on 19 September 1969 in Apeldoorn, Gelderland. [1] He attended high school at the preparatory scientific education level at the Myrtus College in his hometown between 1982 and 1987.
Bruins subsequently went to the Utrecht University, where he graduated with an Master of Science (MSc) degree in physics in 1991.
Afterwards, he became a doctoral researcher at the Stichting voor Fundamenteel Onderzoek der Materie (Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter, FOM) for four years. In 1995, he obtained his PhD degree in mathematics and physics from the Utrecht University with a thesis entitled "The magnetic form factor of the neutron". [1]
Bruins later lived in the United States, where he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1995 to 1997. He then returned to the Netherlands, where he was a project coordinator at his former training institute FOM between 1997 and 2004, as well as subsequently director of the Leiden Institute of Physics of the Leiden University from 2004 to 2007, before his time as director of the FOM between 2007 and 2015. Bruins was a member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), but switched over to the socially more conservative Christian Union in 2011. [3] In the parliamentary election of 2012, Bruins was placed as number six on the Christian Union list but was not elected. [3]
On 2 December 2015, he became member of the House of Representatives, when he replaced former party leader Arie Slob who had resigned as a parliamentarian. [4] Bruins had previously served as editor-in-chief of the magazine of Christian Union's scientific institute. [3]
In the parliamentary election of 2021, he was placed seventh on the party list, failing to win reelection. In 2023, following the resignation of then party leader Gert-Jan Segers as a parliamentarian, a seat in Parliament was proposed to Bruins, who declined to return. The seat went to Nico Drost instead.
Bruins became religious at age 18. He first belonged to the Reformed Association in the Protestant Church in the Netherlands and later became a Baptist. [1] [3] Bruins is the second Baptist member of the House of Representatives, preceded by Janmarc Lenards . [4]
Jan Cornelis Terlouw is a retired Dutch politician, physicist and author. A member of the Democrats 66 (D66) party, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1981 to 1982 under Prime Minister Dries van Agt.

Hanke Gerdina Johannette Bruins Slot is a Dutch politician, jurist and army officer who has served as Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations since 10 January 2022 in the Fourth Rutte cabinet. A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), she previously served in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2019. Bruins Slot focused her work as a parliamentarian on matters of defence personnel, local government, healthcare science, medical law, psychiatry and sports.

Yde Johan "Eddy" van Hijum is a Dutch politician. As a member of the Christian Democratic Appeal he was an MP from 2 September 2003 till 11 November 2014. He focused on matters of social security, income policy, dismissal law, labor participation policy and day care. Since 12 November 2014 he has been a member of the Gedeputeerde Staten of the province of Overijssel. He holds the portfolio of Economy, Energy and Innovation. In the House of Representatives he was replaced by Martijn van Helvert. He served in the States of Overijssel from 26 March 2015 to 20 May 2015.

Leendert Arent-Willem de Lange is a Dutch politician. He has been mayor of Wassenaar since 18 July 2019. Previously he was a member of the House of Representatives for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, serving from 31 March 2015 to 23 March 2017 and once again from 31 October 2017 to 3 July 2019. De Lange was alderman in Noordwijk between 2006 and 2013 and in Wassenaar between 2013 and 2014 where he also served as deputy mayor.

Rink "Rien" van der Velde is a Dutch politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands for the Labour Party between 25 October 2016 and 23 March 2017. He entered the House as a temporary replacement of Sjoera Dikkers. On 14 December 2016 he became a permanent member of the House when he took the place of the resigned parliamentary group leader Diederik Samsom. He has served in the municipal council of Noordoostpolder since 2010. He serves as council leader of the combination Labour Party/GreenLeft.
Julius Huibert Terpstra is a Dutch politician, who served as a member of the House of Representatives in the years 2020–21. He is a member of the political party Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). He had served as duoraadslid in the Leiden municipal council and as chair of Christian Democratic Youth Appeal, CDA's youth organization. Following his membership of the House, Terpstra returned to Leiden politics and became alderman for construction following the 2022 municipal elections, having been his party's lead candidate.
