FAW Jiefang is a truck manufacturing company headquartered in Changchun, Jilin, China, and a wholly owned subsidiary of FAW Group. It is the largest manufacturer of heavy trucks in China. [1] FAW Jiefang was established in 2003 and has more than 22,000 employees, building more than 500 different models of 5-30 ton trucks. It has an annual production capacity of around 200,000 vehicles. [2]
FAW Jiefang began as the FAW Car Co., Ltd, with its founding in 1953. The first truck rolled off of the lines in 1956. [3] The technology came by way of Russia (Soviet Union). [4]
In December 2020, FAW Group announced the restrcuture of FAW Bestune and FAW Jiefang. The Bestune was transferred from FAW Car to FAW Corporation Limited (FAW Group) and will operated independently as a wholly-owned subsidiary of FAW Group. FAW Jiefang was set to listed in the capital market. [5]
In December 2022, the FAW Group announced the transfer of 17.02% FAW Jiefang share to Bestune, providing financial support to Bestune.
On October 24, 2023, FAW and Huawei stepped up their strategic partnership by signing a MoU that involves the cooperation in such fields as AI, intelligent driving, and intelligent cockpit. [6]
FAW Jiefang is made up of other subsidiaries and divisions.
The Qingdao Truck Division, located in Qingdao, China, merged into FAW Group in 1993, and later was assigned to the FAW Jiefang company. This subsidiary has 2,900 employees, and produces over 70,000 units per year. [7]
The WuXi Diesel Engine Works Division (also known as FAWDE), located in Wuxi, Jiangsu, has 4,000 employees and produces diesel engines for generator sets, water pumps, forklifts, farm equipment, and trucks. [8] They were formed in 1943 and became part of the FAW Group in 1992. [9] They produce 150,000 diesel engines annually. [10]
The Deutz (Dalian) Engine joint venture is managed through the FAW Jiefang subsidiary.

The FAW Jiefang CA141/CA1091 is a five tonne capacity, 4x2 troop/cargo carrier truck developed and built by First Automobile Works and used by the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China for transport. It entered service in 1980s along with Soviet GAZ-53 and ZIL-130 to replace the older Yuejin NJ130 (the copied version of the 2.5 ton Soviet GAZ-51) and Jiefang CA10 (the copied version of the 4 tonne Soviet ZIS-150). The Nissan Caravan is a light commercial van designed for use as a fleet vehicle or cargo van and manufactured by Nissan since 1973. The ZIL-157 is a general-purpose 2+1⁄2-ton 6×6 truck, produced at the Lichachev plant in the Soviet Union from 1958 to 1977, when production was transferred to the Amur plant, since the Lichachev plant wanted to focus more on modern trucks, such as the ZIL-131 truck. Nevertheless, production of the ZIL-157 trucks continued even after the fall of the Soviet Union, but eventually ended in 1994.
The Jiefang CA-30 is a military truck used widely by the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It is a licensed-produced Soviet ZIL-157 6x6 army truck, and looks similar to original, except that it has square fenders rather than round fenders as on the Soviet-produced ZIL-157.

The GM "old-look" transit bus was a transit bus that was introduced in 1940 by Yellow Coach beginning with the production of the model TG-3201 bus. Yellow Coach was an early bus builder that was partially owned by General Motors (GM) before being purchased outright in 1943 and folded into the GM Truck Division to form the GM Truck & Coach Division. The Yellow Coach badge gave way to the GM nameplate in 1944. Production of most "old-look" models was stopped upon the release of the GM New-Look bus in 1959, however some smaller "old-look" models continued to be built until 1969. Approximately 38,000 "old-look" buses were built during the 29-year production run. The "old-look" name is an unofficial retronym applied to this series of GM buses after the release of the GM New-Look series.
