Star HD 125612

    HD 125612 c is an extrasolar planet which orbits the G-type main sequence star HD 125612, located approximately 188 light years away in the constellation Virgo. [2] The discovery of this planet was announced by the HARPS team on October 19, 2009, together with 31 other planets, including HD 125612 d. [3]

    In April 2010, the Spitzer Space Telescope was used to search for the transit of this planet across the face of its host star. The initial light curve was consistent with a transit, however new observations with Spitzer in September 2010 did not confirm the transit signal. Analysis of both Spitzer light curves showed that the possibility of a transit was only 0.24% compared to 9.7% prior to these observations. [4]

    HD 189733, also catalogued as V452 Vulpeculae, is a binary star system 64.5 light-years away in the constellation of Vulpecula. The primary star is suspected to be an orange dwarf star, while the secondary star is a red dwarf star. Given that this system has the same visual magnitude as HD 209458, it promises much for the study of close transiting extrasolar planets. The star can be found with binoculars 0.3 degrees east of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27).

    HD 219134 is a main-sequence star in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It is smaller and less luminous than the Sun, with a spectral class of K3V, which makes it an orange-hued star. HD 219134 is relatively close to our system, with an estimated distance of 21.34 light years. This star is close to the limit of apparent magnitude that can still be seen by the unaided eye. The limit is considered to be magnitude 6 for most observers. This star has a magnitude 9.4 optical companion at an angular separation of 106.6 arcseconds.

    HD 4308 is a single star with an orbiting exoplanet in the southern constellation of Tucana. It has a yellow hue and is a challenge to view with the naked eye even under good seeing conditions, having an apparent visual magnitude of 6.54. This object is located at a distance of 72 light years, as determined from parallax measurements. It is a population II star and is considered to be a member of the thick disk. The star is receding from the Sun with a radial velocity of +95 km/s.

    HD 80606 and HD 80607 are two stars comprising a binary star system. They are approximately 217 light-years away in the constellation of Ursa Major. Both stars orbit each other at an average distance of 1,200 astronomical units. The binary system is listed as Struve 1341 in the Struve Catalogue of Double Stars; however, this designation is not in wide use and the system is usually referred to by the HD designations of its constituent stars. An extrasolar planet has been confirmed to orbit HD 80606 in a highly elliptical orbit.

    HD 125612 is a binary star system with three exoplanetary companions in the equatorial constellation of Virgo. It is too dim to be visible to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 8.31. The system is located at a distance of 188 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, but it is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −18 km/s.

    HD 17156, named Nushagak by the IAU, is a yellow subgiant star approximately 255 light-years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The apparent magnitude is 8.17, which means it is not visible to the naked eye but can be seen with good binoculars. A search for a binary companion star using adaptive optics at the MMT Observatory was negative.

    HD 189733 b is an exoplanet in the constellation of Vulpecula approximately 64.5 light-years away from our Solar System. Astronomers in France discovered the planet orbiting the star HD 189733 on October 5, 2005, by observing its transit across the star's face. With a mass 11.2% higher than that of Jupiter and a radius 11.4% greater, HD 189733 b orbits its host star once every 2.2 days at an orbital speed of 152.0 kilometers per second, making it a hot Jupiter with poor prospects for extraterrestrial life.

    HD 212301 is a binary star system in the south circumpolar constellation of Octans. This star is also called HIP 110852. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.76, it is too faint to be visible to the naked eye. The system is located at a distance of 177 light years from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +4.7 km/s. It has an absolute magnitude of 4.06.

    XO-2 is a binary star. It consists of two components: XO-2S and XO-2N, both of which has two known exoplanets.

    HD 215497 is a single star in the southern constellation of Tucana. It has an orange hue with an apparent visual magnitude of 8.96, which is too dim to be viewed with the naked eye. A 2015 survey ruled out the existence of any stellar companions at projected distances from 26 to 300 astronomical units. Based on parallax measurements, it is located at a distance of 132 light years from the Sun. The star is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +49 km/s, having come as close as 45 light-years some 774,000 years ago. The absolute magnitude of this star is 5.77.

    HD 113538 is a star with two planetary companions in the southern constellation of Centaurus. It is much too faint to be viewed with the naked eye at an apparent visual magnitude of 9.05. The distance to this star is 53 light years and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +39 km/s.

    HD 134060, also known by its Gould designation of 38 G. Circini, is a star in the southern constellation of Circinus. It is near the lower limit of stars visible to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 6.29. The distance to HD 134060, as determined using an annual parallax shift measurement of 41.59 mas, is 78.4 light years. It is moving further away with a heliocentric radial velocity of 43.5 km/s, having come within 34.6 ly some 439,000 years ago.

    HD 41742 and HD 41700 is a star system that lies approximately 88 light-years away in the constellation of Puppis. The system consists of two bright stars where the primary is orbited by two fainter stars, making it a quadruple with an unequal hierarchy.

    HD 20003 is a star in the southern constellation Hydrus. With an apparent visual magnitude of 8.39, this yellow-hued star is much too faint to be visible to the naked eye. It is located at a distance of 136.6 light years from the Sun based on parallax. HD 20003 is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −16 km/s, and is predicted to come to within 97 light-years in around 1.4 million years from now.

    HD 93385 is a star in the southern constellation of Vela. At an apparent visual magnitude of 7.5, it is too faint to be seen with the unaided eye. Parallax measurements made using the Gaia spacecraft show an annual shift of 23.15 mas. This is equivalent to a physical separation of around 141 light years from the Sun. It is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +47.8 km/s.

    HD 45184 is a star in the southern constellation of Canis Major. It is a yellow-hued star near the lower limit of visibility to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 6.37. The star is located at a distance of 71.65 light years from the Sun based on parallax. It is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −3.8 km/s.

    HD 96700 is the Henry Draper Catalogue designation for a star in the equatorial constellation of Hydra. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.51, which puts it below the limit that can be seen with the naked eye by a typical observer. Based upon parallax measurements, this star is around 83 light years away from the Sun. It is drifting further away with a radial velocity of 12.8 km/s.

    HD 179070, also known as Kepler-21, is a star with a closely orbiting exoplanet in the northern constellation of Lyra. At an apparent visual magnitude of 8.25 this was the brightest star observed by the Kepler spacecraft to host a validated planet until the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting HD 212657 in 2018. This system is located at a distance of 354 light-years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −18.2 km/s.
