Kumbakonam City Municipal Corporation is the civic body governing city of Kumbakonam in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. History and administration

Kumbakonam City Municipal Corporation in Thanjavur district [2] was formed on 20 December 2021 and is the 21st municipal corporation of Tamil Nadu. [3] [4] [5] Kumbakonam City Municipal Corporation will include Darasuram town panchayat and 13 panchayats adjacent to the place. [6] [7] The place is driven spiritually through many important temples. [8]

Kumbakonam City Municipal Corporation has a Commissioner, [2] a Mayor, a Council, a Standing Committee, and a Wards Committee for facilitating various works.

The Rameswaram Express, previously known as Boat Mail or Indo-Ceylon Express, is an express train that connects Rameswaram with the state capital Chennai via Tambaram, Chengalpet,Melmaruvattur, Viluppuram, Cuddalore port, Chidambaram,Sirkazhi,Mayiladuthurai, Tanjore, Trichy, Pudukkottai,Karaikudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai,Ramanathapuram. During 1900's it was a combined train and steamer ferry service between India and Ceylon. Connecting Chennai and Colombo, the system initially utilised a rail-to-sea operation, but changed to a rail-to-sea-to-rail operation. Passengers could buy a single ticket for the journey. Now at present, it runs from Chennai Egmore to Rameswaram via Villuppuram, Kumbakonam, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Paramakkudi, Ramanathapuram, Mandapam and Pamban.

Kumbakonam railway station is a railway station serving the city of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India. The station is a part of the Tiruchirappalli railway division of the Southern Railway Zone and connects the city to various parts of the state as well as the rest of the country.The station was declared as cleanest railway station in Tamil Nadu and ranked fifth best in the national level in 2016. It is classified as an "'A' category railway station" in the Trichy railway division of the Southern Railway Zone.It is one of the busiest and top revenue generating stations of the Southern Railway zone after Tiruchirapalli TPJ, Thanjavur TJ in Tiruchirapalli division. The Shradha Sethu express connected Kumbakonam to Ayodhya. The well-known Mahamaham tank is 1 km (0.62 mi) from the railway station.

Pallavaram Corporation was a corporation planned by the government of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, Chennai Corporation extended its city limits. In 2017, Pallavaram, Avadi and Tambaram was announced for the upgrade into corporations. But later in year 2019, Avadi is upgraded as municipal corporation, while Pallavaram remained as a municipality, and a part of the newly created Chengalpattu district. The proposed Chennai Pallavaram Corporation would have been a satellite corporation adjacent to the Greater Chennai Corporation.
