Nhlakanipho Ntombela is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since before 2014. He is also a longstanding member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the KwaZulu-Natal ANC, and in December 2021 he was elected Deputy Regional Chairperson of the ANC's Moses Mabhida branch in Umgungundlovu District.

Political career

Ntombela was formerly the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal. [1] [2] He is also a longstanding member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch: [1] he had a seat in the committee by 2006, [3] and the committee appointed him provincial head of campaigns ahead of the 2011 local elections. [4] In March 2012, he stood for election as Regional Chairperson of the ANC's eThekwini region, the ANC's largest branch in the country, but he was narrowly defeated by Sibongiseni Dhlomo, won received 277 votes to Ntombela's 242. [5]

Ntombela was a Member of the Provincial Legislature prior to 2014, and in the 2014 general election he was re-elected to his seat, ranked 26th on the ANC's provincial party list. [6] In November 2015, he stood unsuccessfully for election as Provincial Secretary of the KwaZulu-Natal ANC; he ran on a slate aligned to outgoing Provincial Chairperson Senzo Mchunu, and he was defeated by Super Zuma. [1] [2] Ahead of the ANC's 54th National Conference two years later, according to IOL, he was a "key backer and lobbyist" of Cyril Ramaphosa's successful campaign to be elected ANC President. [1]

At the ANC's next provincial elective conference in July 2018, Ntombela was re-elected to the ANC Provincial Executive Committee, [1] and in the 2019 general election he was re-elected to his legislative seat, ranked 13th on the ANC's party list. [6] In July 2020, he was appointed as official spokesperson of the KwaZulu-Natal ANC, succeeding Ricardo Mthembu, who had died of Covid-19 complications earlier that month. [1] In December 2021, Ntombela was elected Deputy Regional Chairperson of the ANC's Moses Mabhida branch in Umgungundlovu District, the party's second largest branch in KwaZulu-Natal; in that capacity he served under Regional Chairperson Mzimkhulu Thebolla. [7] He was re-elected to another four-year term on the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee in July 2022. [8]

Siboniso Armstrong Duma is a South African politician who is the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal. He is also Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the KwaZulu-Natal government.

Michael Mabuyakhulu is a South African politician and former trade unionist who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature between 1994 and 2016. Bheki Ntuli is a South African politician who is active in the African National Congress (ANC) of KwaZulu-Natal. He is known for his tenure as Regional Secretary of the ANC's eThekwini branch, an office he held from 2015 to 2019. He subsequently led the branch as its interim coordinator from 2020 until 2022, when he was voted out of the leadership by allies of Zandile Gumede. In July 2022, he was elected to a four-year term on the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch.

Alpha Shelembe is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. Between 2006 and 2011, he was a local councillor in Msunduzi Local Municipality, where he was Speaker from 2006 to 2010 and Deputy Mayor for a brief period in 2011. He resigned from the council in June 2011 after prolonged protests calling for his removal. He is also known for his activities as a local ANC leader in the party's Moses Mabhida branch in Umgungundlovu, including as the branch's regional chairperson between 2012 and 2014.

Langalakhe Nicholas "Senzo" Mkhize was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature. Formerly an activist in the ANC Youth League, he served in the National Assembly from 2009 until 2010, when he was transferred to the provincial legislature. He remained in the provincial legislature until his death in 2016 and was its Chief Whip from 2014 onwards. At the time of his death, he was also a member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch.
