The Pune International Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race held in Pune, India. The first edition of the race was held in 1983, and the 36th edition will be held in December 2022. It attracts many international participants, who compete with local and national runners in the distinct climate of the Indian subcontinent. It hosted the Asian Marathon Championship race in 2010. The event also organizes a short celebrity run in which film personalities and national athletes participate and raise money for charitable causes.

In its 21st edition, held in 2006, the event attracted over 50,000 runners from India and around the world. Corporate participants also helped in the battle against HIV/AIDS by participating in the 4.5 km charity race. All the money collected from this race was donated to Project Concern International, an NGO working towards HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention in Pune.

The twenty-fifth edition of the event was held in 2010. The organizers introduced two new categories - Women's Full Marathon and Men's Half Marathon.

Since 1983, thousands of runners from all walks of life have taken part in the event. The Pune International Marathon is now widely used as a platform to spread social messages and raise funds for charitable causes. The Athletics Federation of India has awarded the status of 'National Marathon Championship' to the Pune International Marathon. The marathon route consists of Pune's scenic and historic locations with thousands of spectators lining up along the course to cheer the participants. It is the most anticipated running festival in the city of Pune[ citation needed ].

Race day photos

In the 33rd edition of the race held on 2 December 2018, participants could easily find their candid action photos directly on the basis of their names or Bib numbers. Pune International Marathon partnered with SplitSecondPix, a Technology company based out of Mumbai to enable this facility for the participants. This facility created lot of excitement amongst runners and welcomed the new introduction with cheer and joy. [2]

The Ladakh Marathon is a marathon held in Leh, a town in the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh. It claims to be the highest marathon in the world, held at a height of 11,500 to 17,618 feet. The seventh edition of the Ladakh Marathon was held in 2018 and its ninth edition is happening in September 2022 after being cancelled for two subsequent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is full member of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. The marathon was organised "to foster national spirit and to encourage sport in Ladakh". The Pinkathon, India's biggest women's run, is an initiative of the United Sisters Foundation and organised by Maximus Mice and Media Solutions Pvt Ltd. It was created with the specific purpose of getting more and more women to adopt a fitter lifestyle and to highlight the need for increased awareness about Breast cancer and other health issues that put women's lives at risk. State Bank of India took up the title sponsorship of the Pinkathon in 2014. The founders of Pinkathon are Milind Soman and Reema Sanghavi.

The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Marathon (VVMCM) started as a state level event in 2011 and has grown into one of the country's premier National level running event, offering the highest prize money for Indian athletes, both professional and amateur. With the scenic beauty of Vasai-Virar, strategically placed cheering zones and excellent facilities to the runners, VVMCM offers one of the best-running experiences in India.

The Avon International Marathon was an annual women's marathon event that was held at various locations from 1978 to 1984. Sponsored and organised by Avon Products, a beauty and household goods company, it was the longest distance race within the Avon International Women's Running Circuit, which was created with the aim of promoting elite and grassroots road running for women. The circuit was headed by former runner Kathrine Switzer, whose efforts had led to the formal acceptance of women at the Boston Marathon.

The 25K run is a long distance running footrace that is between the distance of a half marathon and a marathon. It was formerly an official world record distance in road running by World Athletics, but has since been downgraded to world best status. Separately, the Association of Road Racing Statisticians retains world records in the 25K distance. The ARRS holds different standards for records than World Athletics, with exclusions for certain point-to-point races and mixed sex races. As a result its women's world record is 1:26:34 by Nancy Conz, set in 1982.
