1927 is a British theatre company, based in Margate, Kent, England. [1] It produces and performs mixed-media live animation theatre.

History

Inspired by a love of silent film and animation, [2] 1927 was established in 2005 by animator and illustrator Paul Barritt and writer and performer Suzanne Andrade, together with performer Esme Appleton, composer and pianist Lillian Henley, and producer Jo Crowley. [3] Its productions combine performance, live music, animation, and film. [4]

1927's first production was Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea at the Battersea Arts Centre in London and the Edinburgh Fringe in 2007. [5] At the Edinburgh Fringe it won a Scotsman Fringe First Award, the Herald Angel Award, the Total Theatre Award for Best Emerging Company, and the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award. [6]

1927 is the trading name of 1927 Productions Limited. [7]

The Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden is a theater festival in Wiesbaden, Germany. Established in the late 19th century after the Bayreuth Festival, the festival is one of the most distinguished international theatre and music festivals in the world. It is presented annually in May at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the State Theatre of Hesse in the capital Wiesbaden. The festival currently features performances of operas, ballets, plays and musicals. Visiting companies, mostly from European theaters, present their recent productions along with performances of the Theater Wiesbaden. Concerts from a wide array of music genres are featured as well as artistic circus acts and modern dance presentations. Amir Hosseinpour is an opera director and choreographer who has worked in major opera houses worldwide. He collaborated with directors such as Pierre Audi, founder of the Almeida Theatre, Nigel Lowery, and choreographer Jonathan Lunn. His production of Haydn's Orlando Paladino, co-directed with Nigel Lowery, continues to be broadcast on Sky Arts HD regularly. Some of his biggest productions have been recorded for international DVD releases. His choreography for Michael Tippett's The Midsummer Marriage at the Bavarian State Opera in February 1998 was described as 'stunning' by The Daily Telegraph critic, Rupert Christiansen, and it was also highly praised by Wolfgang Sandner in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Other outstanding reviews for Hosseinpour's work in the German-language Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) were for Les Paladins (Rameau) at Basel in December 2004, reviewed by Gerhard Koch, Petrushka at Munich reviewed by Jochen Schmidt in December 1999 and Orphée et Eurydice at the Bavarian State Opera in November 2003.

Melitta Muszely was an Austrian operatic soprano and a voice teacher. She made a career based in Germany, mainly at the Hamburg State Opera with guest contracts to the Komische Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera, among others. She took part in world premieres, and performed internationally in Europe. She appeared as all four female characters in Offenbach's Hoffmanns Erzählungen in the legendary 1958 production by Walter Felsenstein, and sang recitals until 2008.
