The 1969 European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Bucharest, Romania from 30 May to 8 June. The 18th edition of the bi-annual competition was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EABA. There were 180 fighters from 25 countries participating.
The Light Flyweight (– 48 kilograms) category was contested for the first time.

Francisc Vaștag is a retired Romanian amateur boxer, who won three world amateur titles between 1989 and 1995, in the welterweight and light middleweight categories. He competed at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics reaching quarterfinals in 1992. After retiring from competitions he coached the national boxing team. His son, Andrei Vaștag, is a football player who played for Liga I side FC Dinamo București, among other teams.
Markus Beyer was a German professional boxer who won the World Boxing Council super middleweight title. As an amateur, he represented Germany at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games in the light middleweight division. He also won a bronze medal at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships and silver at the 1996 European Amateur Boxing Championships.
Aleksandr Borisovich Lebziak is a Russian boxer, who won the Gold medal in the men's Light Heavyweight (81 kg) category at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He beat Rudolf Kraj in the final.
Mihai Leu also known as Michael Loewe is a Romanian former professional boxer who competed between 1991 and 1997. He held the WBO welterweight title in 1997.
Mate Parlov was a Croatian-Yugoslavian boxer and Olympic gold medalist who was European and World Champion as an amateur and as a professional. Parlov was voted the Best Balkan Athlete of the Year for 1974.
Mircea Șimon is a retired Romanian heavyweight boxer. He took up boxing in 1971 at Dinamo Bucharest, coached by Constantin Nour, and won a silver medal at the 1976 Olympics, losing to Teófilo Stevenson in the final. Șimon also won four national senior titles and two bronze medals at the European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 1978 he fled to the United States, where in 1978–1979 he fought 14 bouts as a professional with a record of 12 wins and two draws. He later returned to Romania and coached Marian and Dorel Simion. He then took a break from boxing for ten years, and in 2007 worked with Romanian Boxing Federation to prepare the national team for the 2008 Olympics.
Marco Rudolph is a retired German boxer, who won the Lightweight Silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Vitali Tajbert is a German former professional boxer who competed from 2005 to 2013. He held the WBC super-featherweight title in 2010 and the European Union title in 2008. As an amateur, he won a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships, a gold medal at the 2004 European Championships, and a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, all in the featherweight division.
Costică Dafinoiu was a light-heavyweight boxer from Romania. He took up boxing in 1969, winning a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics, a gold and a silver medals at the Romanian National Amateur Boxing Championship and won the Golden belt international tournament organized by Romania in 1974. He retired in 1981, and after receiving a degree in physical education worked as a boxing coach at his native club CS Progresul Brăila.
The European Amateur Boxing Championships is the highest competition for boxing amateurs in Europe, organised by the continent's governing body EUBC, which stands for the European Boxing Confederation. The first edition of the tournament took place in 1924, although the first 'competitive' championships were hosted by the city of Stockholm (Sweden) in 1925.

Nicolae Linca was a Romanian amateur welterweight boxer. After winning bronze medals at the 1953 and 1955 European championships, he became Romania's first Olympic champion in boxing at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Fighting with a broken finger, he won against Fred Tiedt in a 3:2 split decision. Today, he remains the only Romanian boxer to win gold at the Olympics. His amateur record upon retirement was 281-25. After competing as an amateur, Linca turned to coaching in the sport. By the 1990s he was living in poverty and suffering from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, which led to his deaths at the age of 79. In 2005 he was awarded the Sports Merit Order of First Class.
Ion Monea was a Romanian amateur boxer. He competed as a middleweight in 1960–64 and won a bronze medal at the 1960 Olympics and a silver medal at the 1963 European Championships, placing fifth at the 1964 Olympics. He then moved up to the light-heavyweight division and won three more medals, at the 1967 and 1969 European championships and 1968 Olympics, losing on all three occasions to Danas Pozniakas. He did not fight Pozniakas in 1968 though, as he had a broken nose from his previous bout and withdrew from the Olympic final.
Egor Leonidovich Mekhontsev, is a Russian professional boxer, who among other achievements, won gold at 2012 London Olympics in the light heavyweight division.
Constantin Titoiu is a retired amateur boxer from Romania. At the 1982 World Amateur Boxing Championships he won the bronze medal in the flyweight division. In the semifinals he was beaten by eventual silver medalist Michael Collins of the United States. He also won five national senior titles and two bronze medals at the European Amateur Boxing Championships.
Bogdan Andrei Juratoni is a Romanian boxer. Juratoni won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku and qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Alan Richardson is an English amateur and professional featherweight boxer of the 1960s, and 1970s, he was the 1969 Amateur Boxing Association of England featherweight boxing champion, won bronze medals in both the 1969 European Amateur Boxing Championships and the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, and was British professional featherweight boxing champion from Tuesday 15 March 1977 to Thursday 20 April 1978.
The Women’s European Boxing Championships was hosted and organised by the Romania Boxing Association in Romania in 2014. The event was held in Bucharest in Romania from May 31–June 7.
Stoyan Angelov Pilichev was a Bulgarian boxer who competed in the lightweight category at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics, as a member of the Bulgarian national boxing team. In the 1964 Summer Olympics he lost to Józef Grudzień from Poland in the quarter-final. In the 1968 Summer Olympics he lost to Calistrat Cuțov from Romania in the quarter-final. Pilichev represented Bulgaria in the lightweight category of the 1969 European Amateur Boxing Championships. After reaching the final, he faced Calistrat Cuțov from Romania, in a rematch of 1968 Mexico City quarter-final, and he lost on points, resulting in winning the silver medal of the division.
The Men's 2017 European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in the Palace of Sports "Lokomotiv", Kharkiv, Ukraine from 16 to 24 June 2017. It is the 42nd edition of this biennial competition organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, the EUBC.
