After losing their 1st game in Omaha, Nebraska to St. John's, Arizona won the next 4 against Florida State, Michigan, Hawaii and California to advance to the final game: a rematch against Hawaii. The Wildcats defeated Hawaii 5–3 to win their 2nd National Championship.

The Wildcats finished with a record of 56-17 overall and placed 2nd in the Western Athletic Conference's Southern Division with a 12-4 in conference play, finishing 2nd in the WAC Southern. Arizona advanced to the postseason for the 3rd straight season and was placed in the Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Texas-Pan American at Jody Ramsey Memorial Stadium in Edinburg, Texas. The Wildcats defeated Texas-Pan American, Missouri and Texas A&M to advance to the College World Series for the 1st time since 1970. After losing their 1st game in Omaha, Nebraska to rival Arizona State, Arizona won the next 4 against Oklahoma, Clemson, Eastern Michigan and Arizona State to advance to the final game: a rematch against Eastern Michigan. The Wildcats defeated Eastern Michigan 7–1 to win their 1st National Championship in program history.

This was the Wildcats' worst conference record during Kindall's tenure as well as their 2nd worst overall record. This marked the program's 2nd straight season finishing with a losing record, the first time this had occurred since 1983–1984. For only the 3rd time under Kindall's leadership, Arizona missed the postseason for a 2nd consecutive season.

The Wildcats' 15 wins were the fewest the program had in a single season since winning only 12 games in 1949. This season also saw the team finish with the lowest win percentage in program history (.273). Arizona both finished with a losing record and missed the postseason for 1st time since 1991.

The team was coached by Jerry Kindall in his 21st season at Arizona. The Wildcats finished 35-26 overall and placed 3rd in the Pacific-10's Southern Division with a 16–14 record. Arizona reached the postseason for the 2nd straight season and the final time in Jerry Kindall's tenure and were placed as the 3-seed in the Midwest Regional, which was hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After falling into the loser's bracket with a loss to Auburn in their 1st game, the Wildcats rallied to win their next 3 against North Carolina State, Fordham and Oklahoma State. The team was ultimately eliminated 1 win short of a College World Series appearance with a 10–11 loss in the regional final to host Oklahoma State.

The team was coached by Jerry Kindall in his 20th season at Arizona. The Wildcats finished 34-23 overall and placed 1st in the Pacific-10's Southern Division with an 18–12 record. This was Arizona's final conference championship under Coach Kindall and would be their last for 20 years until clinching a share of the then-Pac-12 Conference championship in 2012. The Wildcats made the postseason for the 1st time since 1989 and were selected to host the West Regional at Sancet Stadium. This would be the final time Sancet Stadium would host postseason play and, coincidentally, was the last time the program would host a regional until the same 2012 season when the program would win its 4th College World Series title. The Wildcats lost back to back games to Washington and Hawaii to end their season.

After a single year absence, Arizona returned to the postseason and was selected to host the West I Regional at Sancet Stadium. The Wildcats won their 1st pair of games against Eastern Kentucky and Hawaii before falling to Long Beach State in their 3rd game. The team bounced back to avoid elimination against Loyola Marymount but ultimately lost the next game to Long Beach State to end their season. The team was also noteworthy for featuring 6 future Major League Baseball players.

Arizona failed to make the postseason for the 1st time since 1977.

The 1978 Arizona Wildcats baseball team represented the University of Arizona during the 1978 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wildcats played their home games at Wildcat Field. The team was coached by Jerry Kindall in his 6th season at Arizona. The Wildcats finished 42-13 overall and placed 2nd in the Western Athletic Conference's Southern Division with a 13–5 record. After a single year gap, Arizona was selected to the postseason and was placed in the West Regional hosted by the University of Southern California at Dedeaux Field in Los Angeles, California. The Wildcats lost their 1st game to USC before bouncing back to win their next 2 against Santa Clara and Cal State Fullerton. The team however lost their next game - a rematch with USC - to end their season. This would be Arizona's final season as members of the Western Athletic Conference, which they had been affiliated with for the previous 16 seasons. Beginning in 1979, the Wildcats would compete as members of the Pacific-10 Conference for the next 45 seasons, which they would remain in until leaving for the Big 12 Conference in 2024.
