The 1985 Southland Conference tournament was held in Monroe, Louisiana. [3] Northeast Louisiana won the seven team tournament. The Indians season ended with the tournament championship as they were not selected to the compete in the 1985 NCAA Division I softball tournament.

Format

The tournament was a 7 team double elimination format. All teams which competed in conference play were members of the tournament field. Regular season champion, Southwestern Louisiana, received a first round bye.

The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States. The UTSA Roadrunners is a collegiate athletic program that represents the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks are the intercollegiate athletics teams representing the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). The Nicholls Colonels softball team represents Nicholls State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Southland Conference. Nicholls' first softball team was fielded in 1981. The team plays its home games at 500-seat Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park and are coached by Justin Lewis.

The Lamar Lady Cardinals softball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team competes in the Southland Conference. The Lady Cardinals are currently led by head coach Amy Hooks. The team played its home games at the off–campus Ford Park for the first two seasons following the program restart in 2013. The Lady Cardinals began playing home games at the Lamar Softball Complex located on the university's campus starting with the 2015 season.

The McNeese Cowgirls softball team represents McNeese State University, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Cowgirls are a member of the Southland Conference and participate in NCAA Division I college softball. The team is currently led by head coach James Landreneau and play their home games at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.

Sarah N. Dawson is an American, former collegiate All-American, softball pitcher and head coach. She played college softball for Louisiana–Monroe and is the Southland Conference career leader in wins, strikeouts, shutouts, WHIP and innings pitched. She ranks top-10 all-time in NCAA Division I for career shutouts (9th) and innings (5th).

The 1984 Southland Conference tournament was held in Lafayette, LouisianaSouthwestern Louisiana won the six team tournament. Their season ended with the tournament championship as the Lady Cajuns were not selected to the compete in the 1984 NCAA Division I softball tournament.
