The Southland Conference softball tournament is the conference championship tournament in college softball for the Southland Conference (SLC). It is a double-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I softball tournament.

Tournament

The Southland Conference softball tournament is a double-elimination tournament held each year at various SLC campus stadiums. The top seven SLC softball teams participate in the tournament (barring NCAA sanctions). Of the ten current members, only the University of New Orleans does not sponsor softball.

History

The tournament was first held in 1983 when the conference began sponsoring softball. The tournament was not held from 1991 to 1995 and was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The Women's College World Series (WCWS) is the final portion of the NCAA Division I softball tournament for college softball in the United States. Eight teams participate in the WCWS, which begins with a double-elimination tournament. In other words, a team is eliminated when it has lost two games. After six teams have been eliminated, the remaining two teams compete in a best-of-three series to determine the Division I WCWS National Champion.

The Southland Conference's men's basketball tournament began in 1981, with the winner of the tournament receiving the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

The Texas State Bobcats are the sports teams that represent Texas State University. Currently, they compete in the Sun Belt Conference in NCAA Division I. The Bobcat has been the mascot of Texas State University since 1921, when the university adopted the name from the recommendation of a committee formed to raise school spirit. Though considerably smaller than mountain lions, bobcats are known for their stubborn fierceness and great courage. The football squad used the bobcat for the first time in 1921 and went undefeated with a 7–0 season. Texas State had several officially recognized live bobcat mascots until the 1970s. In 1964, the Texas State Bobcat was given the official name of "Boko" by Beth Greenlees, a sophomore from Luling, Texas, who beat out about 100 other students in a "Name the Bobcat" contest. Her winning submission earned her a $5 prize and the honor of being the person who named the Texas State mascot. Boko has twice been named “USA National Champion” mascot. Texas State had no official fight song until 1961, when Paul Yoder was commissioned to compose "Go Bobcats." The song is the rousing "call to arms" for all Texas State athletic games and competition.

The 2007 NCAA Division I baseball season play of college baseball in the United States, organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on January 25, 2007. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2007 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2007 College World Series. The College World Series, which consisted of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament, was held in its annual location of Omaha, Nebraska, at Rosenblatt Stadium. It concluded on June 24, 2007, with the final game of the best of three championship series. Oregon State defeated North Carolina two games to none to claim their second consecutive championship, which was also their second overall.

The Sam Houston Bearkats softball team represents Sam Houston State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in Conference USA. The Bearkats are currently led by head coach Garrett Valis. The team plays its home games at the Bearkat Softball Complex located on the university's campus.

The 2018 Southland Conference tournament was held at Joe Miller Field on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, from May 8 through 11, 2018. The tournament winner earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The Championship game was broadcast on ESPNU. The remainder of the tournament aired on the Southland Digital Network.

The 2019 Southland Conference tournament was held at Lady Demon Diamond on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, from May 7 through 10, 2019. The tournament winner, Sam Houston State, earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The Championship game was broadcast on ESPNU. The remainder of the tournament aired on the Southland Digital Network.

The Southland Conference women's soccer tournament is the conference championship tournament in women's soccer for the Southland Conference. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament.

The 1983 Southland Conference tournament was held at the Beaumont Athletic Complex in Beaumont, Texas The tournament was the conference's first. McNeese State won the six team tournament. McNeese State's season ended with the tournament championship as the Cowgirls were not one of the eight teams selected to the compete in the 1983 NCAA Division I softball tournament.

The 2024 Southland Conference tournament was held at North Oak Park in Hammond, Louisiana from May 7 through 10, 2024. The tournament winner, Southeastern Louisiana earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division I softball tournament. All games were be broadcast on ESPN+.
